I really think General Motors should've sold the Holden Ute in the United States -- so I reviewed a Holden Ute located in California to demonstrate exactly why.

I recall when Pontiac was considering manufacturing a version of it here. They even showed mock ups of the Pontiac version, with a Pontiac grill (not good -- UTE looked better). I think they decided against it due to US crash testing requirements and modifications they'd need to do.

And I think the Holden UTE is a version of the Holden Monaro, which was similar to the Pontiac GTO.

Mate no one in australia gets a Commodore ute to put stuff in the tray. For that we use something like a hilux or a ranger and yeah we came up with this shit haha

Doug, your ignorance of Australian cars all the time is cringe worthy. We invented the Ute in the 30’s btw. The fact that car was built over the G8 Pontiac was to make it an easy left hand conversion. AGAIN the G8 is an Australian Monaro & therefore not half & half but a full Aussie car. As we have a history as long as the US in making cars I guess it’s about time you did some better Aussie research. Maybe you can do a show about the history or the UTE. Still like your show mate OK.

They are useless because they have car suspensions and you can't haul or tow anything very heavy. It's basically a car without a back seat that doesn't haul much. You can't even get a full sheet of plywood in the back. That is the bare minimum test for a useful utility vehicle.

I loved the El Camino. I would totally buy one of these. We got the Holden Commodore in the form of the Chevy SS. Why not this one? The US gets all the bum deals on vehicles. Even the American Civic Type R isn't as cool as the foreign market versions.

WOW! GM really fucked up Holden I just went to their website and there is no single " real " Australian vehicle only rebadged GM vehicles fro different brand! Chevy, Buick, GMC!! they even use the Trailblazer name over there, Man! that is sad, Mary Barra WTF??

Yes is amazing how GM make the most stupid decision, like back in 2008 or 09 when they started installing 2 little GM emblems on all the vehicles from their different brands, They had a gold mine with Holden, I can assure if they would brought the whole brand to the US it could have been a total sucess I always drooled over these cars.... well everyone know GM is FACK up!

People in America like the idea of it but, if we really loved it that much, they would have bought enough of them to stay in production. I just hope they get tired of SUVs.
