The latest four-wheel drive SUV from BMW, the X3 is a very accomplished road car that sits just below the X5 in BMW's impressive line-up.

Great all rounder. Find me another car capable of seeing off sports cars whilst carrying a wadrobe in the back.

X5 is great. If you want something bigger and slower in standard form.

      Twin turbo model is ridiculous!

That's not a "phone holder", it's the phone preparation set, which means that if you want to be able to directly connect your phone to the car (for charging it, for instance), BMW will install your phone's attachment to that "phone holder".

Jeremy Clarkson on the BMW X3: "And if you are clinically insane, by which I mean you wake up in the morning and think you are an onion, here's your car."
Other than those guys, the X3 is also a perfect car for idiots who want an X5 but just don't have the coin. So they buy this thing and boast around.

@Kristián Kopáčik I never said that I'm talking about Europe. If you haven't noticed I'm talking about everything in dollars. Are you even paying attention?
The new one has a 2.3L engine that produces around 300 BHP, it has a great interior, especially considering the price, an independent rear suspension, and Mustangs are actually pretty comfortable. Hell, even the old one, it's about as much fun as you can get for $20K, even if it's not the fastest car around the track it's sure as hell is fun to drive. Mustangs are also great looking cars.
Modifying cars might be a a terrible idea, because if not done properly it can lead to many reliability issues, and reduce the everyday usability of the car.
With all that being said, you're completely missing the point of muscle cars, most of them are NOT track cars. If you want something more track oriented you'd probably go for the Camaro ZL1, or a Z28 if you're willing to live with something that is basically a street legal race car. It costs around $75K, features carbon ceramic breaks, special sports tires, all kinds of weight reducing "features" (basically they just stripped the whole car down, even AC is optional) and it goes around the track about as fast as the more expensive GT-R Track Edition, in fact, it's a much better track car - it's a lot more fun to drive because it doesn't have all of those electronics that do all of the work for you. Other than that, the ZR1 is a much better all around car than both of them, it's a lot more refined, it's faster and many would also say that it's better looking than the GT-R. However, it costs about the same as a GT-R Track Edition. $115K.

@Jesus Christ Anyway, did you notice you're arguing under british car portal? What would be obvious choice in the US is not the same in Europe.

Would you like to own a basic Mustang? Because it's not fast, good in corners, economical, comfortable, or well built. It's just quite nice and has got the badge. Who's the poser now, BMW owner or Mustang owner?

If Mustang, then modified one, with new suspension and brakes (like Roush), which isn't cheap (because multilink is more expensive than a stupid live axle). Again: you can't do a proper high-tech sports car much cheaper than a Nissan GT-R. And Nissan is huge manufacturer that can cover its research costs from sales of millions of ordinary cars.

@whitestrips1 Just go and read my previous comments, I don't care if they're the best in their segment, this whole segment is useless compared to other vehicles you can get (particularly in the US market). In terms of practicality, price, sometimes performance, hell, most of these cars aren't even reliable. X3, Q5, Mercedes GLK, all the same.

whitestrips1 In reply to Dan K

@Jesus Christ What are the "better options"? You have already claimed that both the X3 and Q5 "suck", well they are generally considered to be the best in the segment.  Regarding off road capability, very few people actually off road with their SUV and most luxury suvs don't have that in mind anyways. If you are so inclined to off road, which is a niche marker, one might as well get a jeep or a truck.

Good car which is 100% let down by it's bizarrely estate agent-like sales and servicing staff. It's a cultural thing so don't expect anything other than small print when the time comes to fix anything. This alone caused me to buy a Freelander 2

@Nazareth Ialanouzian its the rear wheel arches, they restrict entry and exit for taller people over 6ft. Also the rear boot once it lifts its impossible to stand under the door without bending over. It really is surprisingly narrow to. Go for the X5 if your tall. Go for the X3 if your average to short.

There is no way on earth tall people can fit inside an x3. tall being anyone over 6".
unfortunately tall people are limited in their choice of cars for ultimate comfort. an x5 is just about right, dont waste your time buying an x1 or x3 unless your short.

this ugly person in the glasses has a solid point, you have to be more detailed about why or why not one should by the car, in regards to it's competitors. but otherwise not a bad review... just in 5 min review covers all the main points which are important for a potential buyer. so great reviews, my appreciation

Water bottles, "plenty of room" (duh..yeah ofc it is, you are so short) and tennis balls. Seriously, does all this silly nonsense help anyone looking to buy a new car? Learn from how the yanks review cars, and no, I am not talking about Top Gear. And while you are at it, recruit Tiff Needell.

It is not worth that money. The price is too high, but quality lacks a lot. And design? It is little outdated, KIA, Hyundai and Chevrolet have much better design for much less money.
