Before you buy this crap and pay $24k, buy yourself a Chinese chainsaw which is a knock-off the real Stihl chainsaw. See how much of a tree you can cut before the fuel hose disintegrates, and before a piston is vaporised.

I've won a brand new T60 in a draw 4 months ago and the first thing I did is to sell that and get a 2nd hand Hilux that is about 7 years older than the T60 and still I feel much better and safer to sit on one of these Chinese UTE

Even though this looks better than Great Wall, it's still going to be unreliable, worthless on thew 2nd hand market after 2 years, sort of like Hyundai when they first came to AUS, give them 10 years before they produce anything remotely decent, if you want cheaper go for the Triton, backed by a proper company with a 5 year warranty., take this thing on a real 4WD track and watch everything fall off and break, take it through a river crossing and watch it stop.

skozza cooper In reply to Zane H

i agree it will probably devalue quick but as for being unreliable and fall apart or even stop because a water crossing i disagree with, i dont think it will be anymore unreliable than the better known utes, and a triton is ok if you a midget, triton is way too squishy for a big bloke, and besides, i honestly dont think australia has much of a choice but to embrace chinese cars because we dont make cars anymore.

all i see are comments and reviews bagging the ldv t60 simply because its chinese. inside is way more classy and high tech than a great wall or even some of the other better known utes. it looks just as tuff as a ranger or a hilux, apparently has the same engine as a holden colorado so with a remap could get same kw/torque figures making it one of the most powerful, has all the mod cons u could want and then some and is probably the cheapest of the lot. if i can come up with 30k im going to get one

I bought Chery J3 from ATECO who also importing this LDV Vehicle from China. From the day one I had issues with Chery J3 2013 and ATECO was very unhelpful in providing Warentee on the car. The matter went to VCAT and I end up getting the judgment in my favour for the reason that ATECO has no intention to provide the warranty, they now have to pay $15,000 back to me and they are still delaying the payment even though there is a court order to pay back the purchase price.

Now I have a friend who bought LDV Ute and he has the same problem, the transmission of the LDV Ute is making the same noise my Chery transmission use to make and he is seeking warranty and the dealership is giving him a runaround. They never accept that there is a problem in the transmission. I would never buy any car imported by ATECO from China as I am now aware of that Chinese Cars are very unreliable, too many issues in parts and services. I would never put my hard earned money to these rubbish cars. I would rather buy a more expensive car and have a proper finance plan with ballooning at the end.

If you buy a german car with 35% Balloning at the end, I am sure you will get the value back at the end of finance term, but with this Ute, forget it.

All the reviews I have seen about these all say the same thing, "under powered" and that is without a load in the back or pulling a loaded trailer.  Having a ute that is under powered empty is just dumb. What would it be like when fully loaded up?  No good having all the bells and whistles if it can't get you where you want to go in a reasonable time.  LDV has announced that it  will be bringing a D90 to Australia some time soon. The D90 also looks good on paper so  I sent an email to Elly Stanyer at LDV Australia and asked when the D90 would arrive in Australia and got no reply in over two weeks.  This tells me that either she is very busy or after sales service may be a problem with LDV vehicles.  It may be best just stay away from them until they have been out 4 or 5 years and got their act together or shut up shop.  A lemon is a lemon no matter if it cheap or not.  Just my thoughts.  Don't want to offend any ones feelings:)

The engine does appear underpowered. I am wondering why they didn't put a more powerful engine inside. Couldn't cost more than an extra 1-2k, and still beat the Japanese utes in price.
The other unknown is whether it will go where others have gone, the real rough terrains.

When you're driving a pickup truck (ute), you don't want a rocket ship on wheels. You want something that's durable enough to withstand wherever you happen to be driving. You also want something that'll haul whatever you want to haul, without feeling like it's going to break in half while travelling gravel roads. You also want an engine with enough low end torque to perform whatever tasks you need without feeling tired while you're working. If only our American pickup trucks were built like that.
