I want to buy a new car and for me it’s between the 2019 Jeep Compass and the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. I will be traveling so I would like to get the 4x4 option. Which car do you think is the better option.

You can do all this with a Honda Civic.

The old cherokee all day long.
When you buy an 4x4 you want to make it your own. An old cherokee in good condition here in italy costs on 2500 bucks.
That said a 4 and a halft inch lift kit is more or less 800 to 900 bucks. 200 to 300 bucks 4 whells with at least 33 inch tyres.
A rear diff lock is 500 to 600 bucks. With less than 5k you have an 4x4 that will beat the 2019 cherokee all day long.
By the way how much it costs a new cherokee?

Notice how with the new one you need a extra (expensive) package to go wheelin in the old one got by just fine stock. Also if they had put some better tires on the xj it would have performed much better

I own a 92 with the H.O. 6 and let me tell ya, it NEEDS a set of diff locks. At least a limited slip or aussie-locker in the front like I'm gonna do with mine. Hard to beat that ground clearance with stock suspension and 235/75/R15's on it. And it'd only be a couple hundred, NOT $1K.

I agree with Tommy. A few thousand dollars and that old jeep would be the king. I mean who cares if you get it scratched up? It’s kind of a beater

I don’t mean to be rude but I could hit the trails you showed in my wife’s minivan. I mean easily. I don’t know if you left out a bug portion of the trip or what but that was a small ditch you straddled and puddle you drive through. It was like me trying to pull up in my driveway

What the fak are you doing ??????????? Comparing factory cars off road ?! None of them is good for off-road !!! You need to do at least some mods and if you try you can make old one a good off-roader for 10% money spent on a new one ! Actually the old one was born to become an off road animal which the new one will never be.

Would have liked to see a comparison with XJ in at least AT tires not highway and a rear locker. This makes no sense with one having that and not the other.

No matter what you put into a KL, it will never be as good offroad as an XJ with $5,000 in mods

That new Cherokee isn't even worthy of the Cherokee name. If I didn't know better I would have to say you two were deliberately trying to make the classic look bad. The problem is that there are just to many of us that have been wheeling in an XJ and we know how capable that they are. I would also like to point out the you did test the "TrailHawk" against an XJ that looks like it belongs to my grandmother. Even if that old Cherokee was equipped with a trak-loc differential it would likely need to be serviced to operate correctly after all these years. Stop encouraging this manufacturer the only solid front axle rig they still make is the Wrangler.

I'm pretty sure I could do this "off-road"thing with my old 2002 Dodge Intrepid with my eyes closed. My grandma could do this too.
