Happened to be in the area when the fire started. That whole side of the block went up in flames.

I wish the cameraman walked roun a lil. I lik the footage of the fire but first 9 mins of footage is of the first truck the flash over n stupid civi's pointing n taking pics. Woulda loved sum shots of arrival n of the types of Engines arriving, setup, so on.... N ur correct about the Towers goin up to put water on the fire. We don't kno the situation n im sur sumwer on scene they hav one up or goin up. All the vids iv watched on fires n personally experiences, not once hav i ever seen a Tower truck go up within 10 mins of bn on scene. They may only b trying to contain this one, not tryin to save it. Im sur in the first 10 mins ther were atleast 10 lines on that fire

Five minutes into the video and there is Fire visible at both ends of the roof also there is Fire visible in mid-doorway, but, No Fire Units to fight the fire and No Police Units to block traffic and assist with crowd control, what a fiasco !!! 10 minutes into the video and heavy fire is through the roof and entire building, but still no ladder trucks, no above fire water towers no real firefighting. 12 minutes into the video, Tiller Ladder truck #5 arrives but does not raise the Aerial Ladder, apparently the truck was only used to transport 3 firefighters to the fire scene and not for aerial platform firefighting. 20 minutes into the video, garden hose size piss stream being directed into mid-building doorway, still no raised ladder. What the Hell, they saved the property for future use, it was an old building anyway ! Great job guys, your department can compete head to head with any VFD in the country and have a good 50/50 chance of coming in second place.

The nearest fire station is located at 11th street and J Street just about 4 blocks away for the fire at 8th street and I street.
What took them so long to get there?

Maybe the question is what took so long for the fire department to be notified. Can you please back up your statement that the fire department took a long time to respond by clarifying what time they were notified and what time they arrived.

50% of that fire should have been knocked down within the first 60 seconds of arriving on scene, the Fire Engines should have master streams and/or remote bumper nozzles, the Engine should have pulled up another 200 feet down the road and shot water directly into the business that had flames at ground level. These Engines have 500 gallon internal tanks usually, easily would have lasted 1 minute while another firefighter worried about connecting the Engine to the nearby hydrant on the corner. Wasting time early on dragging hundreds of feet of green hand line hose out with a fire this large is a waste of time. You do NOT need any hose when the flames are located just 25 feet away from the street, allow the Engine to pump water directly onto the fire.

Union firefighters in action. The firefighter carrying the prod-stick back and forth giving instructions and encouragement. A well oiled machine.

I work 65-70 hours a week as an aircraft mechanic. I spend much of my non-working time on YouTube, which I know is often a waste of my 'free" time. Much of that time recently has been on fire "fighting" videos (I seem to go in "waves" of topics). I am coming to the conclusion that, in America...Fire "fighting" totally sucks!

I thought I was watching a zombie apocalypse movie. Slow, lumbering, grunting humanoids with no real sense of direction. And the street bums in the foreground weren't much better.

4:10 a section of roof collapses. Pushes fire & smoke out, briefly. Then creates a vacuum & sucks all the smoke out through the opening where the roof was. Notice the smoke pouring out the left side of the building stops?
Right beside where they parked a ladder truck - by the overhead wires lol.

I don't get it when large-scale apparatus rich and trained fire departments arrive establish a water supply and then take forever walking around not getting hose lines flowing into the fire???

POOR VIDEO. You got one angle and one spot and worse, your camera is shaking like you have Parkinson disease or something. California has the WORST and slowest fire men in the country. NO wonder fires spread so easy there. They BS around and drag like snails in a slow motion film. No sense or urgency.

Hey man i never claimed to have the best video. I didn't even use a camera just my cellphone. Im not a professional just happened to be there. Im sure whatever you post is way better then anything i post. Doesn't mean you have to be so aggressive you have to bring Parkinson's disease in to it.
