Watch the speedo! I'm surprised the BMW guys didn't complain about the BMW going 2mph faster. Maybe the speedo is off!

Recently an older guy got on the interstate the wrong way in Michigan, driving Bolt, head on collision with Ford fusion, and lived. Unfortunately, the fusion people did not.

stretch44875 Thank you for letting me know that! I am a ride-share driver and in my area we have a rash of illegal Alien drunk head on collisions on two lane blind curve roads. One killing a good friend who just purchased a BMW. I feel less anxiety for my passengers now.

Funny, the tests you showed did not include rear impact. Love how you highlighted "FAILED" though. Way to remain subjective!

GetoverYourself I now have 59,000 miles on my 2017 Chevy Bolt EV and as a ride-share driver in illegal Alien drunk driving and under drug influence country both San Diego and LA this car has saved me from accidents repeatedly. One pedal and regen paddle braking and fast acceleration has saved my bacon repeatedly.

Obviously biased review. This review is like saying:

One student scored a 100 on a test, but another student FAILED to score 100 because they missed one question and only scored a 99.

      So funny!

The truth is, both cars performed well in these tests.

BMWs don’t have seat-back failure while gm vehicles are notorious for it. That proves the i3 is safer in rear end collisions as well. The
      BMW is better fact.

The bmw has a stronger safety cage and performed better in every test except head restraints which is why it did not get a top safety pick. BMW Mercedes-Benz and Volvo are the safest cars on the road and are the only ones that don’t haves seat back failure. I saw an article online where a bmw i3 hit a tree at 70mph and the driver walked away with a small cut on his leg. This automatically proves it’s safer. There is no way you could survive that in a bolt never mind walk away from it. The i3 scored 81 from consumer reports the bolt scored 77. The bmw is definitely a better car all around. The bmw is more reliable and has better quality as well.

Sidney Mantissa I have seen no one else doing it though, and surprise of drivers when they see the lights change when I do it. One particular one on a fairly steep downhill engineers set the lights red even if no traffic I flash about half way down, and the lights change just before I get there so I breeze on through making fuel all the way. Maybe the angle?

David Drake the high beams are spectacular? The high beams aren't even LEDs, they are incandescent bulbs! LOL!

Glad you like the low beams, but it doesn't matter as my comment was referencing the results of the IIHS study which found the low beams to be below par.

If you can signal a light to change by flashing your lights, then that should work with any vehicle. It's not a feature of the Bolt.

David Drake In reply to Idol Hanz

Sidney Mantissa I have no problem with the lights low beam in heavy fog at night, and high beams are spectacular! If you come on a stop light that is red with no other traffic or traffic just passed, and the light has an emergency vehicle sensor, just flash your light like this ( flash flash flash flash flash) and the light will go green. I am still amazed to see this happen.

The Chevy bolt earned top safety pick status while the BMW i3 PASSED with ratings better than most vehicles, including the Tesla Model S.

Note that the headlights in the cheaper Chevy Bolt were rated as POOR, which is a measure of a vehicle's ability to illuminate the road in front of you at night. Poor illumination at night means a greater risk of accidents at night.

Top safety during the day, but poor safety at night for the Chevy Bolt.

What funny is they are rated poor for being too bright and possibly blinding other drivers haha. In a wold of mostly SUVs and Trucks its really a non issue. They are damn bright though.

Gm is crap. unreliable cheaply made and horrible interior quality. The i3 is way better in every way including safety. The only reason it did not get the top safety pick was head restraints and seats. It performed better in every other test than the bolt. There was an article online on an i3 driver who hit a tree at 70mph and walked away with a small cut on his leg. There is no way you would survive that in a bolt never mind walk away. The i3 does not have seatback failure the bolt does making the i3 safer in rear impacts as well. The i3 is better fact.

Noah Yaworowski it's because oncoming traffic is blinded by lights. I get flashed with high beams regularly, and lights are on low.
