Volkswagen Touareg SUV 2014 review: bit.ly/1eBGQWM

The Touareg SUV was originally launched in 2003 and then significantly updated in 2010. It majors on luxury, although it also has the capability to tackle more extreme conditions than most drivers will ever experience. The latest version is much lighter than the original, despite being bigger.

Why is it so unreliable. Vw should seek advice from Toyota on how to build real quality (reliability) cars intead of garbage like this.

ok so after i spent two months looking for an SUV as a family car i stopped at Touareg..Why?Because i can get '13-14 model with 30-40k miles for around $21k which is less than loaded Corolla loool . The way it looks,Touareg is way sexier looking than most SUVs on the road.i dont care about third row otherwise i should go with Suburban. i love how simple Touareg is designed inside and has very comfortable seats plus reclining back, sliding and folding rear seats. i hate when leather seats get fucked up in the first year of using a new vehicle so Touaregs leatherette is what i need bc they keep theyre form fo looong time. And finally when it comes to off road those Acura MDX,MB ML,İnfiniti FX,Nissan Murano do not even come close .

.... from VW site 18 month old Toureg 204PS 10,500 miles £27,495 (from dealer) Whilst this is the less attractive, lower power version of their great engine, this is an astonishing, franchised reduction. The relatively high depreciation of the new car is therefore avoided.

    • David Hayes
      David Hayes

I reckon these are at their very best when bought second hand, at 1or 2 years old. Even from dealers there are some very good reductions (1 year old 35% off at least). Go to VWs own website for used cars and you will see what I mean. The reductions are much higher than for Tiguans, making them no more expensive than a high spec similar aged Tiguan. Toureg are much higher spec.

I wasted nearly 50kGBP on an R line 262 (2015) model, steer clear. Car dangerously coasts when stoping, Sat-Nav requires a paid for SIM service @ 20GBP/month, gears change pedestrianly slow. Was also ripped off by the VW Dealer with the service contract; bought a 4 year plan, was given a 2 year plan by VW and then they refused to acknowledge their mistake.

Stewart Manc's the sim card slot is for the SOS system and isn't required. Its optional to use a sim in the car or use your phone connected by Bluetooth.
The coasting function can be deactivated on the blue motion and its a feature of the car.

I find it funny how every car reviewer talks about that transmission running through the middle of the car causing that bump on the floor when your sitting in the middle seat of the car. Your never put your feet like that on top of it; your feet go on each side and the two peoples feet next to you simply move over, get what I mean?

Never seen such a biased and anti review.  The transmission tunnel is no big deal for rear seat passengers and the centre seat is not hard.  You also used the base model to compare against more expensive and higher spec competitors.  The R Line is a higher spec than the competitors and cheaper than most of their range, yet you didn't test that?  So many negatives in there that anyone would think you were a badge snob.
