The Land Cruiser is a legendary SUV produced by Toyota and the 100 series is a very capable go anywhere machine. It was produced from 1998-2007 and they made a ton of changes from the start of production to the end. In this video I cover all the major changes so you can make an informed decision as to which one is best for you.

Stop telling AHC lies. AHC tends to last well over 10 years and 100's of thousands of miles if properly maintained, that's a far better shelf life and for the most part better performance than any stock or aftermarket suspension a non-AHC Cruiser or LX might have. Any high-end aftermarket suspension will require routine maintenance and rebuilds and possibly even full on replacement in that same time frame costing you thousands. With AHC you have a built-in 2" lift that you don't have run all of the time and the ability to lower for older/shorter riders and it provides different ride and comfort modes with the turn of a dial, that's a game changer. I have the AHC now in a LX 570 and I would take it any day over the standard suspension.

      A new Land Cruiser is $76K while an Escalade is $64K on While a 2009 with less than150,000 miles the LC is $26K and a Escalade is $17K.  A new LX570 3-row is $92K while a 2009 is $27K.
So the LC drops $50K and the Escalade only drops $48K.  Toyota LC is not luxurious and should not have that depreciation compared to another luxury marque.the LX is more like a luxury vehicle in it’s high depreciation of $65 in the last decade.

Did they offer any 2007 land cruisers without the nav scene? Really like these older Toyota and Lexus cars and without the screen I feel like they don’t show their age nearly as bad.

Personally I prefer the 2001-2006 Mitsubishi Montero Limited. These Land Cruiser's are very nice though no doubt.

6:59 "Ten of one, half a dozen of the other". Those aren't the same thing. I think you meant to say the 'ol well-known phrase, "Six of one, half a dozen of the other." That is, unless you were trying to say one of them is better than the other. ;)

I have the 99 LX470. The AHC works great and has given me no guff. As for mileage I have been seeing about 18mpg on the freeway with no issues.

In Europe probably the best year was 2004. This model has all the new features, but it still uses the rear differentia lock.Doesn't have the LED tail lights and the 1 piece headlight though.

It’s a trade off, terrible gas mileage, but your not always having to fix things on it like a Range Rover. Range Rover gets terrible gas mileage and breaks down religiously.

Just to clarify, not ALL 1998-99 have the rear locker, it was an option.

They still have lockers but are rare and expensive and lockers are a must for serious off-roading

If you are going with 2007, is there a compelling reason to just go to an early model of the next gen? A question asked very much out of ignorance on my part. Thanks!

Differeniating btw 1998 to 2003 is not hard but 2003 to 2006 is so a small tip is the rpm 2003 has 5000rpm redline while 2006 has 5500rpm redline a small but helpfull tip.

Very thorough review, and highly useful. I’ve owned five older model Lexus’ to date and none have had any issues. Currently I have an ‘06 RX400h hybrid, and it’s fantastic. However, I still want to own the LC 100 series at some point, so this video explaining all the various models and specs is really useful for when that happens. Thanks, and I’ll check your other video out when you purchased the LC. 👍
