Richard Hammond takes to the road in a Toyota Land Cruiser to assess its performance, practicality, and design. This 4x4 sports a choice of 2 engines- a 4.6 litre v8 petrol that produces 230 bhp- or an impressive 4.2 litre v6 turbo diesel.

It really shows the difference between U.S vehicles and vehicles in the rest of the world, especially Europe. Over there something like that is gigantic, whereas here in the U.S I see dozens of vehicles this size and even bigger every day it doesn't even phase me.

joseph billman at least manageable for basic parts especially the pre 2000 ones... and the best ones were in the 70s and 80s especially with carburetor the Tovers were fuel injected and tends to break a lot not to mention the overheating for nothing!!!

i wish the Canadian auto industry wasn't totally dominated by the crappy american market.. Since the american's don't care for diesel's because they NEED to get from 0-60 in under 8 seconds or they fall dead instantly... Here in Canada we are not allowed to design vehicles or even make our own choices on what we want , some shady deal im sure was made many moons ago with the american's when it coems to cars... Anyways, it sucks because we almost always only have the gas versions of most automobiles. I drive an 04 4 Runner with the 4.0 v6 and would love to swap that for a turbo diesel.. A TD with a 6 speed manual so you can hear that sweet whistling sound from the turbo every time you gives it some rev's, i love that sound..

One thing I don't like about american auto industry is the demand for diesels, or the lack of. I would love to get a 5.0 liter v8 turbo diesel thay has as much pull as a v8 but yet can get 30's on the highway. Their are several factors to this and american auto companies are not to blame. First is the EPA and their stupid regs. Second is the dirty image of diesel even though its cleaner than gas, and our market shoves Hybrids down our throat. This is mainly toyotas fault because tbey pioneered this useless hybrid tech which is stupid because they are said to have the best diesels(which is probably bullshit because ive only owned shitty toyotas, none of them were reliable). At least dodge and GM are trying, while dumbasses at ford actually think that gas v6 turbos are the way to go, idiots
