Kelley Blue Book spent a year testing a 2012 MINI Cooper Countryman. Now it's time to say goodbye. As we bid our Countryman farewell it's time to draw some conclusions about what we liked, what we disliked and what kind of buyer might most enjoy a long-term relationship with the biggest of MINIs.

It takes full synthetic. You're supposed to go by what the computer says, which is adaptive to your driving. Usually anywhere from 15k-20k miles. I still change it around 7500 miles anyway just to be safe. Since they were test driving for a review, they prly wanted to go by the book and follow the manual.

at that price point of a used countryman s you could get a mk6 vw gti, more power than the countryman , more space in the trunk , better interior quality with the sacrifice of all4.. which has me wondering why mini never put the the all4 system in across the entire mini line

I was looking at the GTI's when I started looking to replace my 1998 Toyota RAV, and I like the way they drove, but I just can't really get into how basic they look. They have a dated look. And I'm one of those people who hates how all cars are starting to look the same, but the GTI and all VWs are old style in a bad way.

The countryman is the best car mini has built so far, I have owned 4 mini coopers over the years and they have all been great cars, but the countryman in my opinion is the best so far.The car feels and drives like a mini hatch but with more room and comfort, All the people who when asked would they drive a mini and answered no because its too small? well now you have got the perfect replacement. Mini is not about being small anymore its about being a brand, and thats fine by me, The best thing that ever happened was the new mini in motoring history. We still have the classic mini to thank for creating a new mini which was well overdue, Things have changed and moved on in the mini world and im so glad the new mini was created. What else can you buy that looks half as good as the mini???? NOTHING.

I've had a 2012 All 4 Countryman for a year and a half and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I like it's quirkiness, the window toggles in the middle, everything about it. I've owned nothing but Toyotas and Hondas my whole life and was bored to tears.
Yes, Mini's are different, but that's the point. I'm a huge fan of British Noir, love to zoom around the city pretending to be Michael Caine from Get Carter.
Life is short, gotta switch things up every now and then.

I've been driving my 1998 Toyota RAV since it was NEW (yes, 21 years!!) and I am SO bored!! It's been a great car, dependable, just solid gold, a real money saver. But I am hankering for a Mini Countryman and am pretty sure it will be my next car. That's what I always say too, life's too short to drive boring cars! :-) I will be so excited when I get one, like a kid in a toy store!

Yeah it's a pretty fun ride. It's slightly lower then a standard or a S so they ride is even stiffer. I drove it up to Mackinac Island (Michigan) which was a 4 hour ride on horrid Michigan roads and was fine. I love when people rag on Mini. I just laugh and say "you clearly don't own one"

    • GermanCarsRule

I agree. I like stiffer rides and more control. I got the Countryman and it is fine to me. Stiffer rides equate with sportier suspensions and more control. If that is not your style get a cushy sofa-like cruiser. BTW, I am envious of your JCW. They are sharp.

I have the 2013 SALL4 with sunroof and standard sound. I put kayaks on top so seeing thru the roof is handy and the sun shielding is better than the past. I cannot answer for Dallas sun. The soundproofing is the best of all Mini's and I find the standard sound excellent with a Zune or iPod.. I would say if you are on budget and will not store stuff on top ditch both. Drive one on a sunny day and see what you think. Then go to Colorado and you will be very happy as you drive in the mountains!

    • GermanCarsRule

As someone who's had 6 Mini's this is an excellent and very accurate review, especially at the end when they discuss who would want this Mini. I moved up from a Clubman because I live in snow, drive in some dirt for my kayaking and needed more room and ground clearance than the other Mini's. I also like something that stands out. My rule is "No boring cars.". If that is not your idea than stick to Civics and Camry's.

    • smcombs100

I adore my JCW. They browed the S model then bitched about the ride, well duh. It's not a 70's town car. I have a JCW Countryman and I find the right very nice actually. But then again, I like being unique. And if you can't figure out the radio controls, you must be retarded.
