The 2019 Ford Ranger represents the long-awaited return of one of the longest-selling small pickups on the market. However, it's a far different truck than the Ranger you might remember -- for starters, it's now a midsize truck rather than a compact -- and enters a diverse segment that caters to different types of buyers by focusing on different capabilities.

So what does the new Ranger add to that diversity? To get a better idea, let's see how it compares to the 2019 Toyota Tacoma, one of the more rugged and sporty midsize pickups.

The Tacoma has a very functional center console? Really. How many usb ports does it have in the entire truck

The Ford is not new, only one available in the US. It’s sold overseas.Tacoma has much better styling, reliability, and resale value. This is a Ford commercial not an honest comparison.

Do you want a Truck or a Car. Toyota builds Trucks not Cars that look like Trucks. The Toyota will still be running strong with 300,000 miles on it.

Nobody talks about fuel economy, just how much horsepower and "pound feet of torque". Who gives a crap! Only 1 in a thousand buyers will ever use it for off road of any sort. Tell me how efficient it is. Tell me all that technology is giving me something I can use everyday, like good fuel mileage.

Highly overrated and definitely over priced. Out of reach of the masses anyway. What a joke.

Out of every review done on these trucks you seem to be very partial to Ford whereas everyone else says Tacoma beats all 3 hands down off road. I'll keep my Taco

Ranger with the 4 cylinder turbo gives WAY better gas mileage. I test drove a 2019 tacoma and got an average MPG of 17mpg. on the same route and same speeds I test drove the Ranger and got 27MPG.

Biggest thing is you’ll go through two rangers and the first Tacoma will still be going strong.

Turbo? 10 speed transmission? Just more parts for more potential points of failure.

Don't ever buy a car with new transmission or motor wait a year for good or bad reviews then buy it
10 speed Transmission will break v4 motor towing 7500 pound no can't do
      Rather buy a raptor

The ranger is really ugly with its dis proportioned low window height to tall door height with really small wheels making the truck, not car, look stupid.

The Ranger is soft. Tacoma feels like a proper truck and hands down will hold better resale value. Always has. Always will.

It was an easy choice for me. The Tacoma I sat in my head hit the ceiling with no adjustments and the weird flat floor. I was uncomfortable just sitting in it so I didn't even test drive. That and I want to do a lot of towing so the ranger easily won. The Tacoma just didn't have tall drivers in mind.
