Shop the new BMW X3:

Fans didn’t originally like the idea of BMW building cars for use on dirt and in the woods, but the company now offers five X crossovers, and that number will soon grow to seven. Hardcore fans might find the latest BMWs a little softer and less communicative than the cars that preceded BMW’s “sport activity vehicles,” but the new X3 can still offer a performance driving experience—and the 2018 X3 will be the first BMW available with a factory-installed trailer hitch.

The 2018 X3 offers two engines, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque or a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 355 hp and 369 lb-ft. Reviewer Cliff Atiyeh had plenty of fun with the four, and while he observed more body roll than he’d prefer in a performance car, he found the cabin quiet and comfortable. He also appreciated the iDrive system’s speed and logical control layout as well as the 360-degree camera system’s great views and parking assistance.

personally I love that BMW has a more modist look without all the crazy technology, its too much for me! I bought my 2018 used for about $38,000 it handles just like my 2007 3 series, only difference is the steering is lighter which I which it was heavier. Overall I would choose it over an Audi, volvo or merc.

What is the longivity of x3 turbo engine? The turbo I mean. How much to fix or replace?

This is one of the best quick reviews I really like how this guy talks and how they did the video. A couple of notes on the X3..adaptive suspension is a must otherwise the car is for soccer mom's. Also the car comes with sesatec fake have to pay through the nose for real leather. The seats especially back seats are too damn firm..they have very little cushioning and there are no optional better seats. The 2018 X3 has extremely loud wind noise above 50 mph. This wind noise is a deal breaker I have driven several 3.0 and they all have the wind noise. Closing the awesome moonroof cover helps a little. Finally the X3 is filled with a hard plastic dashboard and hard plastic door panels. Despite a gorgeous design the lack of soft plastics is ridiculous in 2018. Good news is they have an excellent infotainment, the best auto transmission ever and the 4 cyclinder pulls hard and revs. Sport mode is where the car belongs all the time. All in all they came close to a winner it's a beautiful design..but the greedy bastards cheaped out some items. If they ever got all that remedied I would recommend it, even with the insane pricing packages.

Still the best vehicle in it class. X3 is the best driving and info system. MB GLC looks luxurious. Audi Q5 amazing tech. BMW might be boring, but it does everything well.

Drove a GLC wasn't that impressed. However, the new Audi Q5 is a really good midsize as well, it's really a toss-up between that and the X3 and it'll come down to personal preference.

You can buy a base model for that. It will not be as nice as his but will be a sort of plasticky darker version.

The front grill doesn't open and close to prevent wind drag !! bloody idiot, it's to allow cooling as and when required !! if the engine starts to get too warm, the grill will automatically open to allow cool air to reduce the engine temperature, and you are an "Expert" God help us.

      DJAZTHETAFREQ In reply to colinf1951

You are wrong... it is to reduce drag. Several mfg now do this and all electrics do this.

Aaran Boling In reply to colinf1951

Wow, you bothered to post this and you're the idiot. It's the main purpose (reduced drag).

Less resistance, more performance. The improved aerodynamics of the BMW X3, including BMW Active Kidney Grille and BMW Air Curtains, reduces fuel consumption and noise levels, while helping the engine run more efficiently. And the M Aerodynamic kit – standard on the M40i – adds eye-catching Cerium Grey Metallic design cues.

The base MB GLC and GLA both have less body roll. They do not compete on engine transmission.. BMW owns them there.

@randy trachsler Randy .. not in my experience. The M40i has some Dakota (heavily treated surface leather) but the 30i.. I was at three dealers with 40 or so in stock and not one real leather. Certainly no Napa. Even the X5 has Sensetec in many models with $70k trims. Its just the way they order them to keep the price low.

You dont have to special order to get well. Most come without the fake stuff.

DJAZTHETAFREQ In reply to James cooper

@randy trachsler good luck getting real leather in an X3 without special ordering it. It's all fake leather or treated leather surfaces. Napa is a $3k option..

James cooper some people just like having a cool looking car with a trusted name, that handles great on regular roads. Most of us don’t know much about car specs, but I, for example, know Bmw tends be pretty good and fairly “luxurious” though Id prefer the Audi Q5 over the X3.
