The Y62 looks uglier than a hat full of assholes, similar to a Great Wall or Sanyong. These car manufacturers have lost the plot thinking that those vehicles look pleasing to the eye. Just about all new cars look like shit and the same nowadays.

Hi Pat! In september were coming to Perth and we want a Nissan Patrol for sure. Planning to buy a 2005 and on model with the facelift because of the resolved problems with the ZD30 grenade engine. Are there any other common problems or things to check out while inspecting the car? Hoping you can give us some awesome tips and tricks. Regards Natasha & Hans from the Netherlands.

Make sure you don't buy an ex mining vehicle i.e. any white vehicle. The mines in WA water there haul roads with salt water from under ground so the vehicle will have rust and compromised electrics. Also company vehicles have had an extremely hard life. Trust me, I'm a mine worker. Hope this helps.

I've owned a couple of them 2000 model was a shit box,2012 model was ultra reliable. The only downfall with it was it was under powered. It should have been fitted with a Cummins 5.0 litre V8 diesel.

That isn't engaging 4x4, it's locking the hubs manually instead of automatically. You would recognise the tool if you've ever removed wheel nuts...

Just like Graham Cahill at 4WD Action in the Isuzu, sponsorship dollars pays the bills.

Plus, Y61 exited the market a few years ago now so there is no point promoting it.

Nissan Patrol 1998 TI - Bloody ripper of a 4WD it is so comfortable on road and off road it is a tank. Having owned a number of 4WD's from Toyota, Mitsubishi not taking anything away from them they were good vehicles and did not let me down. The Patrol 98 TI has that extra wow factor for me.

However, at the end of the day, everyone has their special 4WD, no matter the make, style or year, if it does what you want it to do that, is all that counts ................... So just get out there and get some dirt between your tread.
      Happy 4WD'ing to all ..........................

I am the owner of a 98Ti, got it third hand, It's seen years of abuse it's seen all sorts of unholy things and yet it still keeps on going, The leather is a bit worse for wear and the drivers seat needs replacing but at the end of the day when i got absolutely lost in the dark and all alone in a forest, It never let me down

Is it only the OEM roof rack that can take 100kg? What if you want to fit a roof tent? Will it be fine with an aftermarket roof rack?

Strongest driveline out of Australian 4x4 trucks.. in America you can get trucks with a dana 60 in the front and 14 bolt rear end or a dana 70. Any driveline that has dana 40 or better is pretty serious and would need a strong V8 to break.. Nissan patrol isn't considered a monster 4x4 where I'm from. My K5 blazer with 1 ton axles leafs and axles you would find on a Chevy suburban... lots of travel. Strong as fuck. Far stronger than a Nissan patrol. Or their best pathfinder with few mods.. my truck has a few mods but it's still the same truck as the factory minus shackles... basically 6 inches of suspension lift... small body trim to fit 39s.. a patrol would need to beef up or gear down its drive train to even consider such a large tire and use it to its potential.. it's tough to compete against those old Chevy and jeep trucks... discoveries... Toyota FJ and helux trucks.

But a 76 K5 blazer or jimmy.. is about as good as it gets.. want a bed... get a K10 truck. 350 with at leist 300 hp is what ya want with a nice low gear... I like a good 375-400 hp tho.. need to pan cake those tires at the top at times and those little Nissan 6 clys struggle for real world use able HP.. ya they can have turbos and sound like machine guns... but 4x4 guys don't want or need that kinda power... but it's nice to know you have a strong 350 under hood and a goof fuel injection system for elevation... and all 350 horses when you need it..

Hmm so how they put roof tents on the roof when the limitacion is 100kg? Just the tent weights around 35 to 50 kilos. Now imagine two adults sleapingbin those roof tents and maybe a dog and some equipment? We easily hawe 250 kg and more on the roof of the car. So i don,t understand that. I see a lot of this wehicles with roof tents.

    • Stuart Smith
Stuart Smith In reply to Sanel Šabanovič

The limit applies to when the vehicle is moving. Stability when cornering, you can’t have weight that high or it won’t be that high for long...
A decent set of racks will hold much more, when standing still. So putting 250kg of tent plus 2 people plus gear isn’t a problem.
