The optional Parking Assistant Plus in the new BMW X3 2017/2018 makes parking and manoeuvring the vehicle easier. It features Surround View including Top View, Remote 3D View and the Parking Assistant with linear guidance, which parks the vehicle parallel or perpendicular to the lane completely automatically. The system works by measuring potential spaces while driving past them at a low speed.

I used it once on my x3 and it freaked me out, a scary experience.

Finally caught up with the Active Park Assist that’s been available on Fords and Lincolns for almost a decade. Admittedly, the BMW looks better at it.

1Drummer - I guess it's okay to be late with something very good, than first with something subpar.

The point? With all that space you just drive front-in...

The point is not everyone is good at parking, this substantially reduces risk. Now given most people can drive straight in, agreed 100% there. At the same time, having the vehicle do it for you automatically, ensures you're going in properly, which for an SUV, visibility isn't always the best factor for drivers.

Long story short, use it, don't use it, I think the average person would use this for parallel parking more than anything, but it's nice to have if you're ever unsure of a parking spot.

so the active plus is simpy changing the gears and giving gas / braking automatically (additionally)?
and the normal parking assistant only finds a spot and steers for you?
correct me if im wrong please!

Assistant plus has surround camera. Standard assistant does exactly the same with rear view cam only.

Active Plus with stop and go basically is a smart cruise control function. Press the button, set the speed, and it will do that speed. If another vehicle happens to get in front of you somehow, you can have it preset to stay at a short, medium, or long distance away from any vehicles to the front, and it will prioritize that over keeping the set speed, including down to a full stop. Traffic stops, and the Active Plus system will stop the car, traffic moves again, and the car speeds back up, prioritizing distance to car in front first, and the set speed 2nd.

There are 2 parking assist functions.
Parking Sensors / Camera : Basically gives you a radar effect to see, hear, and know how close you're getting to something. The backup camera will let you see what's behind you with a live feed to the screen. It will also provide overlays on the backup camera to show you what your projected trajectory is for manual parking.

Second parking assist is the Active parking Assistant Plus. This uses the sensors and cameras mentioned above but will also take control of the gas, braking, and steering input for the driver. If you have this function, you simply slow down to like < 5mph , hit the parking button to engage the parking assistant, drive forward until a spot is found, once a spot is found, select the left or right turn signal to verify what spot you want to park in, then press and hold the parking button next to the gear shift, feed off the gas, brake, and steering wheel, and just hold the button. It will park itself for you and put the car in park. Just be ready to take over to be safe, lol.

(i'm looking into buying a new x3 with these functions, I don't work for BMW, lol. Just trying to give feedback best I can.)
