We bought a '20 tech in Jan '20 (2 mos ago) We've had the car 60 days and I'm on my 5th trip back to the dealer. I've never had this happen before. We're Honda/Acura loyalists, this being our 9th Honda/Acura vehicle and it's an embarrassment to the brand.

Within the first month we had to have lower control arm bushings replaced, which is a known problem that they're still not repairing but selling this way. The brakes constantly squeal and there's no TSB, so no resolution. The lift gate was misaligned and damaged the tailgate trim and the Acura rep wants to "sand down the clear-coat" to smooth the damage versus replacing the trim - on a NEW car, and it has the worst leather seat upholstery stitching and assembly I've ever seen.

It's also a gas guzzler, averaging 17.5 in mixed driving and only 20 or 21 on 500 mile highway drive. It doesn't even approach the EPA numbers on the window sticker, EVER. All the complexity of a four cylinder turbo w/10 speed transmission to get what MPG? Huh? My pick up truck does better!

The only bright side is that the dealer is great, but they can't make up for a poorly designed and manufactured vehicle.

      There are much better choices.

Bought a 2020 RDX Advance and love it... EXCEPT, when you brake and then punch the gas, there is a FULL 1.5 SECOND DELAY. Even in Sport+ there's way too much delay. It's so annoying. My Subaru Forester never had this issue. I hope Acura can fix it with an OTA update. Other than that, it's darn near perfect (besides needing ~70 more hp :)

      2019 A-spec here.
The transmission has S-mode which locks out gears 9 and 10 and lengthens the shift points which keeps the car from always hunting for the most optimal gear. MPG suffers a bit though. Also surprised you did not spend time on how much the car comes to life in Sport +. Better than a Audi Q5? Yes! Is it as good as a Macan S? No but its also way cheaper. Not sure there is much in the segment that gives you this much bang for the buck.

I'm late to the party but I'm considering this vehicle and to be even closer to perfect they need at least two things. Make a-spec an option not a trim so I can have the plantinum elite content with a-spec looks and they have to engineer the car to tow more than a ridiculous 1500 pounds. Great videos guys. Next I'm watching your nautilus review which is my other choice to buy. Keep it up and you may see my name on one of your blue boxes!

Well my MAZDA CX 5 GT Reserve does have a toggle/scroll knob for the screen (which IS a touch screen but only when the vehicle is stopped). But I fall asleep waiting for my infotainment screen to boot up.
I do like my CX 5 heads up display B/C it also displays GPS driving directions.
But I yearn for the RDX SH-AWD handling and its extra 20 horsepower. Ah well, maybe when hit the lottery I can afford an RDX.

Amen, touch screens suck. I remember when I saw an all-in-one computer with touchscreen and thought to myself, how completely useless. Beautiful screen right up until you touch it and now it's got spots and reflections and grease and watching a video or just surfing the web makes you want to gouge your eyes out.

I will give the touch pad a shot and be happy, same with rotary knobs. I get the touch screen on a phone, it's meant for a "here and there" usage that you put down as soon as you get home to a real screen and keyboard.

      @Mike
      Yep lol

BMW, Mercedes, and Audi: Great driving dynamics and overall features, looks, materials, etc. But the longterm reliability isn't good and the labour/parts are fairly expensive. Also, warranty options are quite limited and they are generally harder to work on.

Lexus, Acura, Infiniti: Also great driving dynamics, but the Germans seem to have a bit more features here and there and better ride quality overall. Not that they drive 10x better, but they do feel a bit more driver-oriented and sportier at times. Japanese have much better reliability (mostly Lexus and Acura, Infiniti aren't bad but the former are more reliable.)

Imo the ~ 40k-60k Japanese SUV I would choose would be:

The front of the Acura RDX, the Center console/interior of a 2020 Lexus RX 350 with new touch screen they have and not use the laptop-style pointer

The RX 350 engine, though I wish it was more powerful with like 325hp or something instead of 295hp.

And the rear of either a Qx50 or Rx350.

The RDX is a great, great car. We own the second generation that is babied-driven on the weekends to get groceries. We have the 6 cylinder w/ all wheel drive (just changed over to 6-cylinders away from the turbo) The next gen went back to a 4 cylinder w/ turbo. I think people don't realize how good this smaller SUV is. It has some juice w/ a lot of class. Very happy with our purchase. No issues. Decent fuel economy.

As do I. I'm sure many would like the Accord infotainment but when you think about it, you don't want to look like you're in a Honda when we're reaching these price points. If Acura would give us a conventional shifter and a smaller dynamic mode button or mount that on the steering wheel like on a Mercedes-Benz.

The touch pad is wrong and needs to be replaced. A rotary knob and touch screen infotainment system is the way to go. Otherwise a good SUV overall, although I'm partial to German and North American designs. Lastly, you do get more bang for the buck with this RDX. Good review.

    • Eric B.
      Eric B.

The reviews of the 2019 Acura RDX convinces me that either of the top two Mazda CX 5 levels (GT Reserver and Signature) are a better buy. In driving both I can say the CX 5 has excellent luxury features, some found only on the top RDX level, great handling that is very close to the SH-AWD of the RDX. The CX 5 power is, again, is close to the RDX. But remember, we are talking Many thousands of dollars less for a Signature level CX 5 than the RDX. Plus the CX 5 top levels have a better ride quality than the RDX. True.

So Acura, you have a luxurious, fast and great handling compact SUV which I'd buy if I had the extra "disposable income". But I don't so I'll buy one of the top two Mazda CX 5 AWD, turbo options that are VERY close to the RDX in most areas and maybe even Better exterior styling.

      I own a 2014 RDX.
      Best vehicle I ever owned.
The new design is just depressingly silly.

What was the purpose of so many disjointed non intersecting beltlines that do not have any relation to connecting the front with the rear overall layout.

The vehicle is horribly over styled, to the point of being tacky.

Other than that, it is a fantastic vehicle that will run for ever.

Unlike the electronically and mechanically fussy German, Italian and British vehicles when they get past 60k miles.

This vehicle is good for years of trouble free service.
      Speaking from long experience.

Would you get the RDX over the X3 M40i? I know you mentioned X3, but just wondering if that includes the M40i. Two different levels, I know...

No one seems to use the navigation system to say how terrible it is. You cannot name any location besides home. Limited to 30 locations of which they are addresses without names. A-spec model lacks rain sensing wipers, overhead cameras, approach lights(puddle lights), and folding mirrors. All reviews seem to be about looks and performance of which I will admit that it shines. No mention about fit and finish and orange peel in paint.

Was it a 2020? Any change to the wheel design or more options on the advanced or the backup camera resolution? Hoping some small updates fix a few annoyances.
