What project has Scotto motivated you to work on today? Or at least motivated you to think about working on! #carcaineconfessions

Well, I'll be fiddling with my VW LT35 2.5 litre cylinder needs TLC....and one bolt is stopping me ATM... have hundreds (or is that thousands of bolts??) but not the one I need...maybe I should just get a crate engine??

Rebuild the transmission on my 95 s10 and get my old 06 CVPI back up and on the road. Needs a new computer and put it to the side until this week!

all these Carcaine and Garage Garage episodes, make me think about working on my Alfa Romeo Mito, but then i realise i Live in a country where car modification is ilegal and there are pretty much no parts for a Mito..... Sad Life :/

Isn't this the series they're making in Beijing for Foton trucks?

Edit: also Cummins makes engines in the UK. B-series, 3.9L and up.

Looks like they dropped the price on the 2.8 Cummins. But they don't ship to Texas.

I think you should run a NV4500 or NV5600 if you're going to run a manual trans. They're both durable trans and I'm sure you can gear them how you want.

Disco stick shift trans is pretty rare in the US. Probably make a nice chunk of the budget back selling that on fleabay!

I put a 300 TDI and 380 trans in a 2002 D2. You are right about the parts issue. My donor vehicle was an automatic and the parts to convert to manual on the firewall were basically unobtainium. the 2.8 Cummins wasn't available, but had it been - I'd have done the same thing you are doing. tl;dr, totally agree with your build plan

FYI The LT 230 came in 3 different ratios for the "High" gears. A 1.667 which is what is standard for MOD Defenders, a 1.4, and a 1.2. If you use the 1.2 the revs for a small diesel are great and keep the engine on the highway quite quiet and great economy. The killer part is that the "Low" range of the LT230 XFR case remains unchanged and is amazing off road.

I wanna do this swap on a 3.0 4x4 ranger.. Best ranger 3.0s had 150hp and 170tq.. That qsb 2.8 is closer to the 4.0 sohc.. It'd be perfect in a 3300lb truck..

This is awesome!!!!! I have been looking into doing some kind of diesel swap into my 96 disco and although the R2.8 is a little out of my budget it defiantly puts some ideas in my head about putting something other than a 200/300 TDI in it!
