That Jag, depending on the year the tranny may be a BW Type 12. The later ones were GM TH-400.
The stupid type 12 has no kickdown from 2-1. Also they are a very harsh shifting transmission. Under light throttle they actually clunk but they are reliable peculiarly enough. If you go around a corner or up a side street in top gear and floor it, it will not go into 1st automatically - you have to pull it back but the shifter gate is one of the most counter intuitive shifter gates man could possibly design.
Turbo 400 started in 77 was much better but too much mass for the V12s characteristics so made it sluggy off idle up to about 3000rpm esp with the airconditioning on. After 3000rpm they go really well as you'd expect a V12 to go. As you no doubt already know the turbo 400 will kick down to 1st and even though the Jaguar Turbo 400 is in a Jaguar case (unfortunately) it is just the same internally as any other th400.

I had a second generation Golf and it was such fun to drive. It wasnt fast but it was just fun and very solid. Unfortunately it had dirt in all kinds of places I couldnt clean as someone had driven it down a lot of dirt roads. Still it was a great little car. It was ex South Africa. Not long before I sold it I found a kind of hidden compartment that still had the original manuals and maps for South Africa. (I am in New Zealand).

I had a 1976 jaguar xj12 with a 351 Windsor & c4 swap, that one I wouldnt restore with the interior that far gone, and the rust I saw in a place or two probably means theres more hidden rust, and the v12 is really junk in those, needs an amercan v8, and unless it's a small block chevy it will probably need a trans too.

I gotta admit I have a soft spot for old Jaguars, especially 4 drs. Love rebuilding them. Have a friend whose dad and him owned 4 or them and the newest one was a 66.

That 09 Nissan and the Prius are beautiful! Order the SBB V33.02 ECU Programmer (don't get Version 2) and it will save your butt. Need some blank keys and key FOBs as well from junkyards (order just the transponder chips, they are small) then you replace the ignition with junkyard key and program a transponder and sometimes you can program the junkyard key, glue a transponder chip next to the ignition and you will never have to worry about a transponder key again or lost keys.

That Jag is actually a rare car. It's an early production Series II V12, pre-injection, narrow pleated seats etc. Only available like that for first couple of years of production, and in very limited numbers. Gorgeous period correct colour combo too. Cheers for the great content - feel better soon!

If there is one car that is guaranteed to be a money pit then it's a Jag....especially an old Jag. Randy needs a bigger garage and a bigger wallet.

You mentioned that warranty was still good on the Cruze in the video. I would like to point out that I bought a 2018 Hyundai Ioniq with 9,xxx miles as soon as the car was titled as salvage manufacturer voided warranty. Just something to think about.
