MIAMI (WSVN) -- Dramatic footage from four red-light cameras captured the moment a Miami Fire Rescue ambulance and a City of Miami fire truck slammed into each other Tuesday afternoon, sending 12 people, including several first responders, to the hospital.
The western camera at the corner of Northwest 12th Avenue and 14th Street captured the ambulance crashing into the fire truck as the latter was crossing the intersection. The eastern camera, in contrast, shows debris flying after the violent collision.
The third and perhaps most dramatic angle came from the northern camera, which shows the ambulance on the right side of the frame slamming into the ambulance. It also shows a red sedan moments before the fire engine flips onto it and lands on its side, trapping the crew inside.
The southern view shows the collision, although the fire engine is thrown out of view.
Ironically, the firefighters who would have been first responders on a crash like this became the first victims. Cellphone video captured rescue crews smashing windows to pull their co-workers to safety.
All 12 victims were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Fortunately, all of their injuries were minor.

Was the driver of the ambulance paying attention to what he was doing? or another possibility is that he tried to stop but for some odd reason his brakes failed to work.

The ambulance driver was clearly looking to his right and saw the fire truck unfortunately late.

Yeah. Me and my crew were returning from a call once. Stopped for a school bus which was letting children off, got hit by an ambulance that was going 45, none emergency to the hospital with a patient. Ambulance driver said the sun was in his eyes so he didn't see our truck. No one was seriously hurt

100% the fail of the ambulance driver, he sees that his view on the left is obstructed by the bus yet he proceeds towards the intersection in a fast manner, he doesnt look left and right and ran into the fire truck

This is what happens when emergency vehicles take for granted that other vehicle will yield the right of way to them.

      How to avoid this:
Ambulance has siren on, because it is red.
Firetruck does not have siren on, because it is green.
Firetruck will hear the sirens, and stop.
      No collision :D

The ambulance driver had ages to see the fire truck and stop. The hell was he doing?

Ambulance driver should have seen the firetruck or any other vehicle proceeding through the intersection with a *GREEN* signal.
We encounter good drivers who do not see/hear our emergencyehicle until too late.   They proceed through their green signal, so we slow and be ready to avoid a collision.
