I’ve got a 530d m-sport. It’s a great car but the rear end is a bit bland & non descript. The interior is also showing its age now. But it still drives beautifully and it’s rapid. Despite being a diesel, it sounds sporty. Don’t know how they’ve managed that?!

The 520d isn't "superb" at all. Neither is it's gearbox combined with the 2.0 diesel. It lacks the power you would expect from a 5 series, the M-pack version has an irrelevant suspension which is way too stiff when going over bumps on the highway and the automatic sport gearbox is way too nervous in some situations. Realistic mileage is 40 mpg and taking over is a nightmare. That's why BMW produces the 530d. So you can buy a proper car. I was wise enough to buy this version. Otherwise I would buy the lighter 320d.

+Mehmet Çolak 520d is a bag of shit! The 528i pre-facelift model was the best f10 5er. 530d is great too, I think Clarkson called it the best all round car in the world... and he usually hates BMWs.

do you get paddle shifters in the new BMW 5 series? 520d ?

    • Verliebt
Verliebt In reply to Jai M

+Jai M you get those if you select as an optional extra the automatic sport gearbox, it's about 200 euros more expensive than the regular automatic gearbox.

however if you go for an xdrive version you get as standard the regular automatic gearbox.

99.99% of them do not have issues after 2011. Before that yes they were weak and could fail if the service intervals were not strictly maintained.
