The one and only small, lightweight four-wheel drive is how Suzuki pitches the first all-new Jimny for 20 years. It gets an updated interior and funky exterior styling, but is it a match for the serious large 4x4 establishment? Matt Prior puts it up against the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser 3dr Utility in a disused quarry to find out. Subscribe now:

Decent set of tires on there and most problems solved, my friends own farms in North Yorkshire UK, have had a 2006 model and really works well in the sticky stuff, very tough little 4wd vehicle

Simply you didn't put the Jimny on the same route and placement as what you did for the Landcruiser. By the looks of it, Jimny could've eaten that route in seconds!

A rubbish driver is blaming the car in this situation. An experienced driver (off-road) would of clattered that obstacle. Biased review and not worth the pixels its displayed on.

Y'all are lucky. Suzuki in America is dead. I wish it was still around. I can't even get some parts they are discontinued.

It would be a proper off roader if it had lockers front and rear.

What is AT consumption on highway? Why did not they want to use 5AT

The AT is only a four speed, not five speed. Still, even though I've mainly driven manual transmissions, I would probably get this vehicle in an automatic version. It's a great vehicle for where I live, and I have been to my local Suzuki dealer to look at one. First modification - put on 205/70R15 Firestone Destination A/T tires.

is this 3 door prado the same as the RAV4 in US?

    • Perry Elyod
Perry Elyod In reply to Tami L Howard

No, the Prado uses a ladder frame, 2 speed transfer boxes and rear beam axles. The Lexus GX is the closest to the Prado. The RAV 4 is unibody construction, and is an front wheel drive AWD, not four wheel drive.

This thing is begging for Tru-tracs (or similar) so the automatic braking effect would work alongside the diff without so much need for wheelspin and brake wear.

Where can I buy a vehicle like this in USA. I'm a small car fan, want to drive off road for gold prospecting, but can't figure what vehicle I should drive that is cheap. I'm currently driving Toyota yaris, it's not bad for offroading ,but it's too low hits rocks.

Jimny is smaller than the Land Cruiser and I think is logic for it to find it a bit harder to pass over some obstacles. It would be a fairer contest when the obstacles would be proportional smaller for Jimny by the amount which Jimny is smaller than the Land Cruiser, I'd say.
On a second note, I love both cars very much, I think that the Land Cruiser looks stunning.

LoL. Even my stock Fiat Panda 4x4 could do it better than that super heavy Toyota. ( Not a hater comment. I love the land cruiser...:)

I want a jimny so badly here in the US.
Seems like all the big auto manufacturers keep pushing bigger more complex vehicles because they make more money.
But I'll take this any day over an oversized 4 door wrangler.
