The one and only small, lightweight four-wheel drive is how Suzuki pitches the first all-new Jimny for 20 years. It gets an updated interior and funky exterior styling, but is it a match for the serious large 4x4 establishment? Matt Prior puts it up against the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser 3dr Utility in a disused quarry to find out. Subscribe now:

I've been dreaming of a Jiminy with a diesel motor for years, now i understand suzuki doesn't want to go the diesel way and that's fine.
Now the old terios was sold in many countries under many different names and badges, so please someone give me this exact suzuki Jiminy with the 1.5 turbo diesel motor that renault and Nissan uses, you can even create a brand new brand, just make sure the body and electronics are 100% the same as the Jiminy and the motor is the exact same as the renault motor, that way I'll know that i will always be able to get parts in the future.
Mmm, Jiminy with diesel motor, grrrrr I'm turned on right now!!!

Good review! I would have bought a Jimny if they sold them in the US, but they don't. So, I bought a 2019 Jeep Renegade instead.

Who do these reviews keep on stressing on cheap interior. ITS AN AFFORDABLE SMALL CAR!!! Don't expect napa leather and diamond encrusted switches on a car that eats dirt for breakfast!

Well Jimny proves that we don't need fancy gadgets ' Very high horsepower and torque to go places.

You just need it lifted a few inches and add a bushwhacker on the grill and it's good to go. 👍

If you pimp the Jimny up a bit: ie jack it up and put some decent tyres on it it’ll go basically everywhere. As for the wade depth, I’ve had mine through at least 700mm of water. The thing was floating. Had to open a door to flood the cabin so it had enough weight to engage the wheels. Took a while to dry the thing out later but the electrics and motor are still fine six years later. There are plenty of very narrow tracks near where I live where the Jimny kills the bigger cars. An astonishing car for the small amount of cash these things cost to buy. I absolutely love mine.

Hmmm, your lack of experience driving a suzy off road is the only thing holding it back, how can you compare a largeish diesel to a smallish petrol engine?
put the toyota in low range 1st and it will crawl over the rocks without you in it!! for suzy to do the same it would need a diesel which has Low end torque,
so if you want to get serious off road in a suzy go auto, get a 2inch lift kit, and order the rear factory diff lock.

They should offer it with a diesel engine. That also would solve the issue with torque in low revs. And Suzuki do make decent diesel engines, so it is a bit strange, why they don't
