“Be careful not to scratch the o ring”
As in the next shot the wrench is poking around and hitting the ring as he points out other bolts. Great vid...just funny. Hey so why DID you change filter? Code? Sticky shift? Dark fluid?

Yes.if it's automatic..also there's more solenoids in front of the transmission. Check those if your having shifting issues.

great video. the most informative one on YouTube on how to remove filter and fluid change. I have a question, why couldn't you just fill the transmission through the fill tube instead of taking all that other stuff off? Also all you had to do was take one bolt off that bracket swing it out of the way and then remove your transmission filter.

just changed my filter today. you only have to remove one bolt from the bracket. the one closest to the front of car. just loosen the back bolt. and the bracket will just swivel out of the way

+RatchetsAnd Wrenches It's usually because the technicians at the dealership didn't line up the tranny properly when re-installing it or used the exact same tranny that had all those problems. If they did a good job re-installing the transmission with the redesigned one from 2005 then you should be ok. I've had 100k+ Km on my tranny with the new design. I had mine replaced in march of 2006.

+twizack22. The only work done to the motor is timing belts & water pumps. Engine is still very strong. Always use Mobil One and change every 6K. Had to replace the rack & pinion this summer. Plus the A/C crapped out. Except during hot months, still my primary car.

+Donald Robert Patton How's your motor holding up? Is it original as well? My 1997 Acura CL 3.0 transmission just shot craps after 281,000 miles on original motor and transmission.

I wonder if I would actually changed the transmission oil if I would still be driving today.

+RatchetsAnd Wrenches My 1999 Acura TL has 390,000 miles on the original transmission.  The 1999 TL does not have the external filter.  Every 30,000 miles, I drain the ATF, wipe the gunk off the magnetic plug, and add 3 qts of Mobil One synthetic ATF.  (Every 30K is the severe schedule.)  I used the genuine Honda ATF up till 120K to stay within warranty, then switched to Mobil One ATF. When changing at 30K, the Mobil One ATF is cleaner and less gunk on the magnetic plug than the Honda ATF.

you or someone should really open up one of these filters and see whats inside and how they are constructed, do they have a bypass valve? and see how well they are filtering the atf fluid

are you sure that is the transmission filter cause I ask some professional mechanic and they all said that the transmission is built in side of the trany and there is only one way to replace it that to take out the trany to replace it

i have a 2001 Acura Cl type-S. my engine has 225k miles but the tranny was replaced about 4 years ago, so the tranny is newer than the engine. but recently i have had some slipping on all gears. The RPM would kick up and shift really hard into gear…. i thought my transmission would go out by now. have you ever encounter that before and do you recommend doing the drain and filter change?

sorry to say sounds like you might need another rebuild, if indeed your internal parts of your transmission are bad an ATF and Filter replacement will make things worse. You might want to take it to a transmission shop so they can rule out anything electrical, or if your transmission fluid smells really bad you can just go ahead and asssume the tranny is bad. GL

This is highly recommend if your TL has the outer oil filter and if car starts slipping on any gear specially on Sports Mode. I did this while back and took the slipping problem away.
