How do you like the seats? I am going to be getting one without the adjustable lumbar, like the one you are driving.

I've got this but with the leather and the harmon kardon stereo/sub system which is amazing. I'll only say after test driving everything in this class this is top of class. You can get good deals at the penski dealers as well. At least I did. Basically got a 54K loaded X3 xdrive for 47K. So don't let the MSRP scare you. They got allot of margins built into these things.

The seatbelt pull does happen if you accelerate the engine fast to protect you from accident. If you drive softly that will not happen

      Hi.
What is longivity, reliable and how good is the turbo in the engine? How long will it last? Pls tell me all you know about this turbo engine.

I've got one and its a perfect SSUV. The engine/trans tune is absolute perfection with the bi turbo 2.0 with 8 speed ZF transmission. As for reliability I guess I'll see. But BMW has been making this motor for like 10 years. There were issues with timing chain for awhile. And one other issue that I can't remember but it was also resolved. From what I've heard, its reliable these days. I get the advertised MPG's as well. 23 city and nearly 30 freeway. Its a real cruiser. The updated model from 2018 really nailed it. Mine has the real leather/luxury package and its just amazing. Got mine at a penski dealer and got it for 47K. List was 54K. You can get good deals at the penski dealers. I highly recommend this SSUV. I've had it a year and not a single issue. This destroys the Acura RDX which everyone raves about. Not even close. Also don't listen to this guy in video. The 4 cylinder is fast. Its got allot of power. The 6 is just overkill and it will cost you at the pump. I'll say again, this is how you make a good boosted engine and still get good MPG's. Are you listening Ford? This really puts meaning in the term that many use "ecobust motors". This is how its done.

Why lust after diesel? Where I live the cost of diesel fuel is so much higher than regular gas that any fuel efficiency gains are rendered null and void.

HiPlains1 In reply to Robert Devoy

I wanted a diesel too but the 2.0 bi turbo 4 has allot of power and I get 23 city 30 hwy just like the sticker says. It gets great gas mileage and still has a ton of power. So IMO, no need for the diesel. Just not worth the extra cost and dealing with all the Nox sensors that might fail and the stupid DEF fluid. EPA ruined the diesel party in the states. Just not worth it.

      2018 vs 2019 -

2019 added Park Distance Control, and Active Driving Assistant as Standard. It also added the option of the “sdrive” trim ($2000 less than xdrive)

While the 2018 just had a Rear-View Camera (still in 2019).

Owned (2) X3 (1st gen) skipped the 2nd as we got '11 X5, but now we downsized to X3 again (kids out of child seats etc) and absolutely love the 2018 X3 over the previous and the F30 series that I hate! Still keeping the X5 as a weekend 'beater' and an old 330i as a daily shuttle.

Yeah Stelvio got the looks...but the quality of the materials of the interior is nowhere near the BMW. Stelvio is also more drivers oriented car. Their depreciation though through the years is huge comparing to BMWs

I personally favor the sensatec, because it ages much nicer than any other their leather options. The only downside is that you can get any seat options (except sport seats) with sensatec (ex. Ventilated Seats, Multi-Contour Seats, Heated Rear Seats)

I bought the 2018 x3 and couldn't be happier. The interior is amazing and the 4 cyl ,in sport mode,is very powerful. It seriously feels like a six and the sound is amazing. The transmission shifts so smooth it's unnoticeable and the infotainment is easy to use.I love the scroll wheel. The only downside to the scroll wheel is you'll constantly play with it while your driving.About the apple car play, you pay $300 on the sticker but there is no subscription that I know of.I use BMW nav since it is very accurate and easy to use. Finally,a plus is this suv is made at BMW's new plant in South Carolina.

      HiPlains1 In reply to underwaterman7

Just so you know, that plant exports hundreds of thousands of BMW's overseas. Its one of the biggest exporters if not the biggest export of autos in the US. And they really make a quality product there. There is allot of automation. Watching videos of the assembly will impress. They got their shit together down there. I've also got a 2019 X3 Xdrive fully loaded and really like the SSUV. Its perfect.

+dabear240 I bought a 2019 and agree. The 4 cylinder has has allot of power and it actually gets the posted EPA figures. 23 city 30 HWY. These are very roomy SSUV. Has a ton of headroom and leg room in both front/back. You can press two buttons at back and everything folds flat in one second. No need for X5. Not with the new refresh. Not even remotely so. These have great power, best transmission in the business (ZF) and build quality is insane. The ergonomics are perfect. The display with touch and also having scroll wheel nails it. You got the best of both worlds. But this is a 5 passenger so you know. If you need the third row seating then you have to get the X5 or the newer X7. But things get really pricey on those. The X3 is the best value BMW and they mostly sell those. You may see 50 X3's on a lot and only a handful of X5's. They don't sell many anymore. The X3 is just too good now.

underwaterman7 so your buying Germany luxury but supporting American workers. I love it! As far as space goes how do you like it? I’m undecided between the x3 or x5. I love how the x3 has all the bells and whistles for the price of a base model x5 but am afraid it would fit the whole family.

I have this car, picked it up on December 1, 2018, have around 1K miles plus on it now and love it.

I've had the 2 prior versions, a 2004 X3 3.0 and a 2013 X3 xDrive35i 3.0 and because of that, after test driving them, decided not to get the M40i 3.0 liter 6-cylinder because its ride was too rough and the engine power delivery was jerky and loud, though strong. I've always loved BMW straight 6's from the ones my dad owned but now that I'm older don't really need the power anymore.

It was nice that the xDrive30i was maybe $5K cheaper and gets better gas mileage but those are side benefits to me. Am leasing and can try more power again next time if it bugs me, but will probably opt for a BMW hybrid or electric car if they make a bigger i3.

The 30i is a nice balance of performance, quiet, handling, ride, and the exterior and interior design is elegant, refined yet functional. The technology is something I'm still learning and getting used to. All the lane departure, braking warnings, blindspot notifications, Apple Carplay, active steering, active dampers, voice controls (which are great) for everything including navigation ("guidance to Starbucks"!), heated steering and seats, all the cameras with surround views (wonderful) and sensors all over the place, are dizzying but appreciated. The night exterior and interior lighting is gorgeous.

      I'll get used to it.

I found that the Adaptive M suspension, a $700 option, softens the M40i ride nicely. The wife wanted horsepower and I wanted comfort, so we're both happy.

Who says gays aren't presumptuous and judgemental? I'm very tolerant of gay people and anyone else who chooses a non-conventional lifestyle that doesn't infringe on my personal space. I even support gay marriage for the simple fact that heterosexuals shouldn't be the only ones to endure marital strife and discord. I served in the military with gay soldiers, worked with gay people, and have gay family members both open and closeted. As long as personal boundaries are respected on both sides, I have no issue with gay people.

J High ...It was a hypothetical reply. My point was, it’s all about the majority as to who will be accepted, and the minority being discriminated. As fortunate as we are to live in the US where everyone’s sexual orientations are supposed to be respected, discrimination is still alive and well, and you are the living proof of it. If it’s up to you, you’d probably have gay people stoned to death.

What’s the point of vinyl coverings? Why can they at least not give us cloth if they are too cheap for real leather? It’s cold in winter and hot in summer with those cheap vinyl seats no matter what senso name they give it.

    • Ivan K.
Ivan K. In reply to Paul M

Paul M I have cloth in the middle of the seats and they have been great. Cloth or alcantara in the middle of the seats and ‘fake leather’ on the sides are the options I would go for any day. Perfect in cold weather, perfectly fine in hot (not ventilation required unlike full leather / fake leather seats). Car manufacturers know all this but they keep alcantara for the most sporty versions (even though in fact it is a cheap material) and pushing the full fake leather everywhere so that people have to pay for ventilated seats in order to get comfort in hot weather on long journeys. 100% money grabbing, nothing else.
