NOTES:

Year: 2019
Make: Hyundai
Model: Accent
Trim: SE

Korean Name: 현대 베르나 (Hyundai Verna)

Type: 4-door Subcompact Car
History: Fifth generation. Hyndai has been making the Accent - in some form or another - since 1994.

MSRP: $15,995 (with an automatic transmission)

+ 15-inch alloy wheels

Engine: 1.6L Inline 4-cylinder
Transmission: 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC capability
Horsepower: 130 hp at 6,300
MPG City: 28
MPG Highway: 38
Combined Rating: 33
Fuel Tank Capacity: 11.9 gallons
Cost for a full tank: $3.00 $35.70

+ 5-inch color LCD touchscreen
+ Bluetooth Connectivity

Handling:
+ A little rough. You do feel the bumps at highways speeds. But for normal driving, it worked great.

ACCELERATION:
So, the 0 to 60 time on the Accent is around 10 seconds on the on the "Limited" trim level using the automatic transmission. It's actually closer to 7.5 on the manual (if you're curious).
Anyway, this car is not fast. But it does get great gas mileage which is why I would be attracted to this car. Not speed.

CABIN NOISE:
+ I'm not gonna lie, it's a little louder that I would have liked. But it's not horrible. I just had to turn up the volume on my audiobook by about 10 to 20%.

FINAL THOUGHTS: 4 stars

The MSRP on this car is around $16,000, but with incentives I bet you can get this vehicle for much, much less. So if you're looking for a new car, and you trying to stick to a strict budget, I think this is a great option. You get a nice vehicle, with up to date technology, with great gas mileage for a very reasonable price.

Hello! I love cars like the Accent. I realize it's not super fancy, but this is a really good car for the price. And I kinda wish there were more options like this out there. Cheap, reliable, and fun to drive. What else do you really need?

@Florida bmw and jeep Srt and vw enthusiast Yeah at enterprise I opted for a compact via discount from my work website. He walked me to a 2018 Explorer Limited for the same price. :) I will continue to use enterprise.

Florida bmw and jeep Srt and vw enthusiast Yeah that’s why you got a mustang. If you book a compact you can technically get anything. So technically you didn’t get “upgraded” . It’s hard sometimes to find people that are willing to take a smaller 2 door car like that.

I had the 2014 Accent and its was perfect for me. I miss it so much and will probably update to the newer version when I move back to the states tho. It was just what I needed honestly but i'm sad to see the driver side mirror doesn't have that smaller mirror on the corner to help with your blind spot. I really enjoyed that.

I’m about 6’ tall how was your headroom in the driver seat ? I’m interested in getting one and need an affordable car with decent headroom.

I'm six feet tall and about 165 lbs and I felt very comfortable in the Accent. I also tend to sit up rather straight and I still had zero issues with headroom. And I think this is a perfect "affordable" new car. I really like the new redesign, it feels...well, nicer than it probably actually is. In a good way. Anyway, I say go out and test drive it. I think you'll like it.

thats what i figured that the accent was the better buy cause you can usually get better discounts on them as well. Also was wondering if I should spend little more money to get into a compact car or is the accent a decent car for the money?

Thanks! I really like the new Accent, but unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to drive the manual version or the 2019 Yaris yet. I have driven a Yaris in the past and I enjoyed it, although I feel like the quality of the Accent is superior. The Yaris, at least to me, feels very plasticy. And I realize "plasticy" isn't a real word, but it's the best way I can describe it. So I'd go with the Accent, but test drive them both and let me know what you think!

He filmed this in Oswego Illinois at the very beginning of the video.
The road he is on is named
Walter Payton memorial highway Route 34.
Even though we call it Ogden Ave and Route 34 instead!

The rest of the video he filmed in a park somewhere else that I never been to. But most likely it might be either in Ottawa Illinois with that old train bridge in the background.
It could be LaSalle Illinois with that bridge in the background.

The SE is the cheapest trim. A lot of standard equipment for a base model. The 6 speed manual is only available in the base SE trim. I get an average of 40MPG in my 2018 Accent SE with 6 speed manual, and yes, it has plenty of power with the manual.

40 mpg? Very nice. Personally, I'm sad that manual transmissions seem to be going away. I remember when they were available on almost any trim level, but nowadays it seems like something you have to activately seek out.

I have a much older Accent, but it's good to know that all the features that I like are still there! Although I guess that they never fixed the problem with the trunk and the gas cap! I have the same problem. Still, definitely considering another Accent when this car dies.

Thanks for the review. I got this car in December '18. Was hesitating between a used Camry/Corolla and this and finally decided to buy a new car. As I live in Eastern Europe, I got the Russian version of the car, which doesn't have sport seats or touchscreen (available on top model only), and instead gets heated seats and steering wheel and a stronger suspension system for awful Russian roads. All in all, here are my pros and cons.
      Pros:
      - Reliability. Obviously, it is new, but Accent is known for being very reliable and even if it breaks, it costs less to fix than a German or Japanese.
      - Superb trunk space. It is bigger than Camry's! And also bigger than pretty much any hatchback, with only the height being a problem with getting some tall/wide stuff in.
      - Nice options, as shown in the video
      - Most plastics don't look as cheap as they actually are. If you don't touch the nice looking plastic, you wouldn't know that it's very hard.
      - Standard classic engine and transmission. Mine's engine is chain-driven, don't know about NA market.
      - Overall feel and quality is great for this price point
      - Handsfree works great
      - Great design for a compact car, especially the rear lights and this dark grey color is awesome (I have it as well). so is blue, but white and black do not look good.
      - Interior looks a lot better than a used base Corolla. Also has more tech
      Cons:
      - Might be region-specific, but I only got 2 airbags. I wish I could have side ones as well.
      - Road noise is a bit too much if you are sensitive to that stuff. I'm not.
      - I feel the steering wheel cover will wear pretty quickly. Same for the buttons, so I don't press them a lot lol

I find Hyundai/Kia's interior black buttons not good quality as they will fade and get smudged and loose their glossiness in time. Looks like they're still using the same type of plastics to this day in 2019.
