We review the rare Ford Shelby GT350R. While it's still a Mustang, the car may finally unite German, Asian and American automotive enthusiasts. (BMW, Honda, Porsche, Chevy etc.)

After spending time on the track and on the street there is one thing that stood out about the GT350R, it was like knowing a loved one was on borrowed time, realizing it won't last long. High horsepower, high revving naturally aspirated V8 motors with a manual transmission are a dream these days, and soon to be a fairy tale. With emissions standards, fuel economy regulations the combo this car utilizes will be relegated to the exotic platforms soon.

Always love your reviews. Between a 981 GT4 and a GT350R, money not an issue, which would you choose? Intended use: third car for driving summer weekends, and maybe 2-3 track/auto cross events per year. Concerned about the long-term reliability of the GT350R and oil consumption issues.

My 1983 GT never squeaked or rattled, even with 230 k miles. Guess they don't make them like they used to. Of course, no longer making 175 hp Mustangs is probably a good thing.

I don’t get it, so we criticize it for not having more light weight performance orientation in mind. Then we complain that they put expensive carbon fiber wheels on it.

You whine about the "interior quality", but then you're also grateful for the price point. Pick one, you can't have both

@savagegeese Right, but the topic here is this Ford, not all Fords. My point is simply that, for a car at this level of performance, for $70k MSRP, it's unreasonable - even unfair - to expect a better interior. After all, this car's interior started life as a mid-level rental car, then Ford threw a bunch of amazing performance parts at it.

Bo McGillacutty This car feels how it should. I give it grace because of the panel gaps, cold engine ticking and other quirky road noises.

Complaining about the interior in a $65k car based on a $30k car that performs like a $120k-$200k car is....silly. I've said the same thing about the Corvette for years. You want more nice? Go spend $100k+ for a 911. And get blown off the road. Since this was made, as the non-R has the trans cooler there really isn't a reason to get the R.

The interior of the C7 Corvette blows the interior of the Mustang away. Ford has pretty much always had the cheapest and most uninspired interiors in the business.
