Meet the Palisade, Hyundai’s new flagship SUV, which just made its public debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

With three rows of seats, an upscale interior and all the electronic gadgets today’s drivers expect, this utility vehicle should have everything it needs to compete with the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer and other popular midsize crossovers. Accordingly, it should have no issues taking the soon-to-be-retired Santa Fe XL’s place in the South Korean automaker’s lineup.

not a fan of Hyundai however I love what you said about the manufacturer wanting their line up to look like a chess set instead of Russian dolls. That's what's so infuriating about Mercedes right now

Is 291hp a bit light for a 3.8l engine? I'm not saying it needs more but that sounds like 3.5l output or is it due to the Atkinson cycle?

    • Hyun K.
Hyun K. In reply to SS S

I'm glad they went this route. 3.8liter is good size and will less stressed. 291hp is very segment competitive and its NA engine. no turbo to complicate things.

JDubbs07 You are right I saw another report and apparently the Atkins cycle reduces hp and torque to achieve higher fuel economy.

    • JDubbs07
JDubbs07 In reply to SS S

It's due to the Atkinson cycle. Plus bigger engines are less stressed, so it should fare better then the 3.3L pulling this big thing around.

Hyundai needs to make their car last longer than 5yrs. This car is no different than other car companies...looks good outside but inside that falls off. Still Toyota makes the best set of cars on 4 wheels.

I don't get it - it seemed like Hyundai was going in a better styling direction with cars like the new Elantra and what not and then they come out with stuff like this. The grille is just a weird shape and is too blingy. Oh, well, I'm sure they'll sell plenty of them...

@Benjamin Burkhardt Well frankly none of these cars are gonna be fun to drive or super fast. It's not their point. If you want a fun, fast SUV you have to either pay well above 50 grand or get something much smaller. But you don't really know how this car is going to handle so don't assume that. Most of Hyundai's recent lineup big and small has been quite praised in the handling department.

Nah. This is nice but I'm sure the upcoming Genesis will blow this out of the water. Genesis proved they have a lot up their sleeves. Also, they aren't based on Hyundai's current platforms at all so it takes a bit more time.
