How does one gauge real-world sound and especially smoothness from a video...one that is likely recorded with a Go Pro? I'll bet your wife gives bad head because the hooker down the road doesn't swallow too. But Lol @ the idea that your G37 has a leg up in any department over an R8. I didn't realize Infinity was even still a thing, I thought they folded with Saturn and Saab.

Mike Johnson your G37 does not sound better at any revs, nor is it smoother or more refined. The 3.7 liter VQ is has a lot of weird, unrefined, almost harsh NVH. I had a 370z, which is the same engine, but faster than the heavy and detuned G37. I had my 370z stock, with a technosqaure 8,100 rpm tune with stilled intake and exhaust and later with the Stillen supercharger. I have a run in my videos with open exhaust and the 8,100 rpm tune. It still doesn't sound as good as the V10 R8. I have one of those and had it stock and with a dual mode bypass exhaust, which is straight piped. The V10 sounds fantastic, where the straight piped V6 sounds great for a V6, but nothing compared to 8,600 rpm with the V10.

Rick Su the 400 hp 911S is deceptively quick with its rear weight bias, lower weight and quick shifting PDK. It is only 0.1 seconds slower 0-60 than the stock 525 hp R8. But once you get past 60, the extra hp of the R8 really starts to shine. I got an APR ecu tune for my R8, which is the same as the tune in the 560 hp Superleggera. With the extra 160 hp and modded transmission, it is noticeably and clearly faster than the 911. My 911 ran a 12.2 sec 1/4 mile at a density/altitude of 2500, which is 12.0 sec corrected to standard DA of 0 (sea level at 60 Fahrenheit). My R8 ran 11.6 sec 1/4 with similar (2400) DA. That is 6 car lengths in a 1/4 mile. And one last thing, the stock R tronic in the R8 is definitely slow and soft shifting compared to a superleggera, which I drove back to back at exotics racing in Vegas. I know this is not what you were getting at in your post, but I thought I would add some additional data points for other people that read these comments. 👍🏻

Rick Su the downfall of the R tronic is the part throttle shift jerkiness in auto mode. The S tronic is much better in that regard, but still not as good as the PDK. I had a PDK 911 4S and it is telepathic in auto mode. It has all the right gear choices for around town and in sport mode, it has all the right gear choices for canyon carving or at the track. With that said, the R tronic in manual mode is smooth if you let up on each part throttle shift. The modded R tronic is still jerky on full throttle shifts, but it is brutal in a very, very good way. For someone that is a skilled motorcycle or manual driver, the R tronic should not deter you from buying one. It is a fantastic drive, even compared to the PDK.

Rick Su agreed. However, the R tronic is worlds faster than a regular stick. And for $450 you can get an aftermarket tune for the R tronic that shifts as fast as a race prepped GT3 Lamborghini superleggera. It is a stand alone module you plug into the OBD port, start it and let it idle for 5 minutes, shut off, unplug and you're good to go. A manual transmission shifts at like 500 ms with a good driver. The R tronic is 120 ms. A modded R tronic is 80 ms. The S tronic is 50 ms. With a modded R tronic, you're only losing .03 seconds per shift compared to the S tronic and it's 0.42 seconds faster than a manual. The real beauty is the pricing. I got an R tronic V10 spyder with carbon ceramic brakes with 11,000 miles for $95k earlier this year.
