Even if they do not admit it, all Russians know that soviet and russian cars are garbage.

I'd respect someone much more who buys and renovates a Lada, and drives it with pride coz it's an icon they've brought back to life, than some who buys a brand new Merc with nothing needing done and somehow thinks he's fucking James Bond!

Say what you will about Russian technology, but they are masters at building things that are only just as sophisticated as they need to be.

Now the Russians would rather buy a POS used Japanese car than a Russian built car. Look at all the RHD cars on Russian roads.

Was in Russia around the 1990 -1993 period and the mafia was not bad....it was just short for people who didn't know how to get things done.Once you were in Russia, it was done easily . No doubt this was the perestroika period and the Lada were going back because Avtovaz, producers of Lada didn't make enough for the local market . Add the queue system that had been building for years and you had a huge demand. Also LADA for export were made exceptionally better than local Russians ones so they were in super demand . However i detect some BS here. That LADA that the guy sold for 1750 which would put it in the 3000 $ range with profits and the different costs would end up around 7000 $ in the USSR and i can tell you nobody was paying that price for such cars . Max they were paying around 4 k. Heck a new LADa cost around 6500$ .

I used two Ladas as taxis during the 1980s. They were really good. Never went wrong, plastic vomit.-proof seats, dead easy to get parts for. Excellent work horses! Loads of room in the estate!

Lada isn't a car, it's an appliance. It's made to travel point A to point B, because it can not make the trip beyond that without breaking the owner's back or spirit. Truly awful.

That's £450 more than your average scrappers would have paid for a Lada.

If you try a Lada on bad roads you get the point. It's made for bad russian roads not modern highways. No, I've never own one.
