For 2019, Acura turns things up a notch with the redesigned and significantly improved 2019 RDX. It's new from the ground up and this sporty RDX A-Spec package is one of the few high feature options. For this luxury suv class, the new RDX with SH-AWD shines in the handling department and the 2.0T paired with the 10-speed transmission provides enough thrust to have fun. I was very impressed with this RDX overall and let me know what you think!

      A-Spec SH-AWD
No one has observed that the tailgate does not fitting properly on the right side plus the
left bumper edge is not aligned properly, When I complained, Acura of
Pembroke Pines, they showed me another one with the identical problems. These
vehicles should not have been allowed to leave the factory in this condition, there
is also orange peel in the paint. I will admit that it does drive very well and
it is an attractive vehicle, however if I had noticed the above, it would have
been a deal breaker. A Hyundai Santa Fe comes standard with all the bells and
whistles at a much lower sticker price. My 2016 NX was better equipped. If the
NX had a better AWD system I would have never bought or even looked at the
Acura RDX With my short experience with Acura, I must say that Lexus has
      superior customer Service..

I love when reviewers complain about SUV/crossovers not being "sporty" enough, and compared to cars, they pretty much always fall short. Taller body and added weight will equal more roll and sway, so manufacturers must compensate by making the suspension less compliant for the car not to be dangerous to drive. I hope wagons become more popular in North America since they take positives from both ends of the spectrum: the low and sporty properties of a car + cargo capacity of an SUV. Win-win!

Another great review. Thanks for giving L/100kms fuel economy for us Canadian viewers. Also, it seems every brand is obsessed with big low profile tires which seem to only reduce ride comfort more than anything. The RDX is a sweet machine but I would choose the trims with the smaller wheels.

Norm T only the CRV had oil dilution not the Honda Accord 1.5T nor 2.0T. There is non on the RDX. I thought I had dilution issue but confirmed by Blackstone Oil Analysis to be false. Too many short trips, long Idle and cold temperatures were the cause of fuel smell. My oil dilution <1.5%. A few forum users on the Internet complaint of limp mode on the RDX but that does not represent the mass.

    • Norm T
Norm T In reply to Norm T

@Bnha Ahm CR also bought one to test and know what a abomination the 2019 RDX.

The Honda 2.0T has been going into limp home mode in both Accord and RDX with 2.0T. Honda also has a problem with fuel mixing with oil in the 1.5t engine.

You'd think since they are 2nd to last to bring DI and turbo-4 tech to the masses they would have figured how to do it right instead of using Honda-paying beta testers.

    • Bnha Ahm
Bnha Ahm In reply to Norm T

Norm T is a troll! CR removed the RDX because of infotainment issues. I have had issues with my RDX but that is a non-issue as Acura OTA updates addressed most bugs. It will continue to get better. Reliability is not the concern. It is a reliable engine shared with the Accord turbocharged engine.

Acura might not compete too well in the looks category...some might say, but it sure kicks butt in the performance & quality categories. You MUST physically drive one to appreciate them. I’ve owned a 2012 MDX and had a loaner 2016 RDX for a day, liked them both. I own a 2016 RLX, bought it brand new right off the showroom floor at the dealer. @MoNo K Motor Trend says the RDX 2.0T is slower than the 2019 QX50 2.0T with it's new engine where the RDX new Accord 2.0T is putting out less.

"...The 268-hp crossover recorded a 0-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds and a 15.1-second quarter mile at 91.6 mph. That's a good bit slower than the last 280-hp Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti Sport we tested but slightly quicker than the 272-hp Acura RDX A-Spec."

So C&D 6.6 second 0-60 mph was correct on calling it a Bspec or Cspec. Even Consumer Reports's 7.0s 0-60 was also correct. No sub 6-second time for RDX 2.0T.

Out handled by QX50 and XT4 in Motor Trend handling test.

Even the the Buick Envision 2.0T is putting down a faster 27.5s figure-8 time vs 2019 RDX 2.0T at 27.7 in Motor Trend testing.  That continues in an Emergency Lane test by CR that has the Envision 2.0T doing 55.5 mph while the RDX 2.0T can only go 52.5 mph.  And that is with four less speed compared to the RDX.

What is the advantage of watching what wheels are getting the power? Interesting but distracting. I just want the all wheel drive to work with a minimum of input from me and keep me safe. Often manufactures add switches for sand, snow or mud. I know the car can detect those things. Most all wheel drives are used to get the car off the lawn after washing if not in snow.

This is a great example of this vehicle, I think if I were in the market for this, I'd most likely get it in this spec; minus the 20" wheels, as I imagine they're probably one expensive bitch of a penny to replace!

Great review. The RDX is one of the more competitive crossovers and I'll definitely be checking it out at the dealer when I start shopping around this summer.

One of the most problematic products from Honda right now based on the number of complaints on Acurazine.

Nice review Nolan. I think you are the most thorough reviewer I’ve seen. Not a fan of Acura’s myself. I haven’t been in the new RDX, but Acura’s in general seem to be designed and have an overall quality too close to Honda for me personally. I do like the color combo and the black trim on red seats look sharp. The overall dash design is a bit haphazard for me. The drive mode switch is too big and sticks out too much. One thing I just can’t get used to is the push button transmission. I know it frees up space and all, but it’s just too gimmicky for me. Personally, I’d buy a Lexus. I’d love to see you review the new Soul and Telluride sometime.

Why buy Kia when you can buy Honda or Toyota and get reliability, safety, and resale value?

Why buy Acura when you can buy Lexus?

Why buy Lexus when you can buy Mercedes?

Why buy Mercedes when you can buy Bentley or Aston?

Why buy Bentley or Aston when you can have Bugatti?

Thanks man! I definitely know what you mean with all of those things and they’re good points! I’d love to review those too...hopefully soon! I’m still the little guy and it takes me longer to get cars usually but I’ve been pestering some people lately trying to plead my case....as far as I know in my area....I get the 2nd most eyeballs on content...only behind my buddy Forrest’s Auto Reviews...so hopefully higher priority soon! Thanks for the support and my “giveaway video” is coming soon (way late) but keep an eye out!

And a very problematic one at that on Acurazine.

I think this would be a good replacement for somebody who had a 2005 Honda Pilot. Its the same length: 187" vs 188" but no 3rd seat. "RDX is considered a compact, while the MDX is midsize and offers seating for seven." Although my old Pilot made me feel like a soccer mom I miss it. Transmission was tired at 240k... was still kicking though after I changed a "non serviceable" and clogged transmission filter. Still would like a small SUV with a third row. I think Volkswagen makes one?!

@Stephen Hendricks sounds good.... I don't need my 3rd row passengers so comfortable that I'm always stuck driving but I don't want to torture them either...

The VW Tiguan (185") offers a third row option but it's really a cruel joke, suitable mainly for the S&M crowd looking for somewhere to stow a bound and gagged hostage. A much more reasonable option is the KIA Sorento (189") with a third row quite usable on an occasional basis. We use ours when we're chauffeuring a gaggle of teenage girls around town or going on a local trip with six or seven passengers that would otherwise require a second vehicle. Highly recommended.

That’s very true. Those pilots seem to be very practical! Yep the VW Tiguan still offers a third which is cool. Thanks for watching as always! 😁
