Dont be tempted by its price. Its a problematic unreliable money eating vehicle. I changed its entire gearbox twice in one year. Its comfortable and spacious...but also require a spacious bank account and an owner who has nothing else in life to do..

that's because they are ultra picky with maintenance. If you neglect them for a second they fall apart fast, however, a well-maintained 2wd can last about 500k miles before needing serious engine work. The v6 engine was designed in Germany so the stereotype of picky european engines apply to this car

i had a 2004 explorer that i really loved..had to replace all 4 tires after 1 year,,then 2 weeks ago the transmission..2 days ago it was in a very minor accident in which a corner of a parked car was hit at 10 mph going down my street,it spun around and flipped over..really!, ive since learned of the long and tragic history of flips on the explorers

No. you did not flight your explorer by hitting the corner of a parked car @ 10mph. Not a chance that information is correct.

it was a good review.. I own I 2005 ford explorer xlt v8.. I absolutely love this truck.. I've had it for 2 years now.. only thing I replaced is the transmission with a brand new one from the Ford dealer which was a bit costly ($4000) and now it runs perfect.. if your gonna buy one make sure to check the transmission first they tend to have a lot of problems.

My parents owned an 05' Explorer XLT, with the 4.0 SOHC V6 and 5 speed auto, besides the $3,000 transmission repair, it was amazing. R.I.P. (it was totalled 3 years ago)

Did they ever fix the automatic transmission breakage issue on the V6? Seems to me there's 2 kinds of V6 Explorers on the market: ones with newly replaced transmission, or ones with current transmission issues. $3000 garage bill pending.

I've owned a highly optioned 2004 Eddie Bauer model for about 10 years that I just can't bring myself to sell.  Very few issues until the last year.  New O2 sensor, replaced alternator and battery and new brake pads and calipers.  I still love this truck!

wait untill your transmission quits. They don't nickname them exploders for no reason. We had a 2004 Explorer in the shop the other month with a bad automatic transmission, and the owner decide to scrap it for parts.
