Did I hear correctly when you referred to the introductory production years for these 3 models? My understanding is that this model XC90 was introduced in 2017, the XC60 in 2018 and the XC40 in 2019.
I have the 2018 XC60 that was one of the first to be delivered in Canada in October 2017. The 2017 XC60 was the previous design, without the “Thor-Hammer” lights.

I agree with you on the HVAC knobs - control on my 2016 XC90 would be a lot easier. I do have the standard sounds system, however, which is just fine.

Congratulations Brian/Autogefuhl team on a great comparison. I have the FE D4 XC40 and was waiting for a quality comparison review to compare the XC40 with other XC's. I wasn't disappointed. I can say I absolutely love my First Edition R Design XC40 in D4 AWD fully loaded spec and would recommend it to those wanting all the bells and whistles for a reasonable price with the average 40mpg return I am getting.

um, is it just me, or does that stmt about rear cargo space comparo w/ the 60 and 90, not make sense? i.e where you say that the 60's is better/bigger because in the 90, the third row will usually be in place/used? that does Not make sense. Please revise

only when u use the third row. Of course the XC90 trunk is larger

Unfortunately i found out the gas engines all need premium fuel at a minimum. That amounts to a lot of extra money at the end of every year.

First rate reviews Brian! We love our two new V90’s, and I agree with you on wishing for a few more basic controls, but the voice activation works well for adjusting the climate system (navigation not so much). The steering wheel is fine guys...lol.

The cars look and drive amazing; so far beyond the P3 prior generation Volvo’s: handling/driving dynamics, steering assist delivery, braking modulation and feel, are all vast improvements, and now on par with the best in segment, IMO. Brian, more steering feel comes with the optional bigger wheels, lower profile tires. I will admit that I miss our older inline 6 turbo cars, but not as much as I expected. These 4 cylinders have good pep for their size, plus their lighter weight, now positioned behind the front axle, really influence that improved handling characteristics..

As for price, Volvo always offers large discounts, and are guaranteed to be less expensive than comparably equipped Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

This car requires you to take your eyes off the road for relatively simple tasks making the vehicle a useless piece of shit, plenty of them with severely defective systems like this.

I guess its horses for courses. Here in the UK you would be in a minority opening one or both windows of a 40k SUV with air con unless you wanted moped thieves targeting you for anything inc Rolex/valuables. Saying that I would certainly welcome a few more more buttons for core settings.

+robbie50302 Voice command is shit if you drive like me with both windows open. Why would I want to take my eyes off the road to raise the volume on the radio or tune to a different station. The whole design is so flawed it's hard to believe it wasn't intentional.

robbie50302 In reply to So No

Not if you use voice command which is as easy as saying "temperature 23 degrees". Most of the functions can be easily changed by voice command, one button on the steering wheel.

Interesting but it would have been slightly more helpful to compare the three cars at the same level in the range - I.E. the R Design for all 3 with the top of the range (or bottom of the range) engine and gear box. Comparing the top of the range engine and spec for the XC60 against to bottom of the range XC40 is odd. For example the key with the RDesign XC40 is leather I.E. identical to the one shown for the XC90.

I don t think anybody is going to drive around with 1000w blasting away. Not only will you go deaf but get pulled for excessive noise. I have premium sound in my xc60 and the only time i crank the volume upto half way is when dome mates jump in, you probably go deaf going around a couple blocks.
      Great sound and great cars

Sorry Brian but feel like I've wasted an hour of my time. I like Autogfuhl a lot but this presentation was way below the usually highly informative standards. The main thing I can take away, thanks to your needless numerous repetitions, is that these are quite expensive cars? What you absolutely fail to do as put the costs in comparison to other makes so not entirely fair? You could have also for example compared fuel economies between the 3 cars/engines?

Autogefuhl... the key on the XC40. Plastic?. Well. If you spec the XC90 or the XC60 in a lower spec you will also get the same key. Its not only for the XC40.
