We've finally had a turn behind the wheel of one of this year's most anticipated new vehicles: the 2020 Toyota GR Supra. In this video, Carlos Lago gives his first impressions on what the Supra is like to drive on an open track. After that, we'll get into some of the details inside and out, including the areas Toyota left for the aftermarket to fix.

Toyota invited members of the press to Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia to experience the 2020 Toyota GR Supra. Along largely unrestricted lapping sessions, we learned about the car's development through the team that's responsible for making it, including the chief engineer.

About the 2020 Toyota Supra:

Twenty-one years after the last Supra vacated American dealerships, Toyota has unveiled its replacement. The 2020 Toyota GR Supra is a two-seat sports car designed to take on the Porsche 718 Cayman, and it's engineered with more than a little help from BMW. The new Supra is thus a curious mix of German and Japanese parentage, but Toyota is adamant that it has its own distinct character.

The 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine ― an inline-six, in keeping with the heritage of both BMW and the Supra ― produces 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. It's mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel. This combination, a staple of BMW's gargantuan model range, should offer an appealing mix of smooth operation and strong performance. It won't be slow ― Toyota claims 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds when using the launch control function. The top speed is limited to 155 mph.

Toyota emphasizes that the Supra is a usable everyday car. As you'd expect at this $50K price point, such features as dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and power-folding mirrors are standard, with a comprehensive lineup of passive and active safety equipment, including automatic emergency braking and a lane departure warning with steering assist.

Those seeking more luxury can upgrade to the Premium model for an additional $4,000, which features a larger (8.8-inch) touchscreen display with improved telematics including wireless Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker JBL audio system, wireless phone charging, and a head-up display system. Premium buyers will also get to park their derrieres on heated, leather-wrapped chairs, replacing the microfiber suede used in the standard car.

Minute 8:40 who went home early when they designed the door? That isn't even a functional vent?

It's a tough call, but I think I'm still going to end up getting a 981 Cayman. The new supra definitely seems like a great car that will have endless modding potential

Its a beautiful car, but Its full of fake vents and you cant help wonder what else is a gimmick on this car? Then they insult your intelligence by saying “oh, we put the fake vents there incase tuners what to open them up” what? Then if you are not a tuner you are stock with tacky fake vents, plus if tuners are going to go through all the trouble to open ventilation, they could just creat their own vents from zero. The truth, it is imposible to open up the fake vent on the door without re-engineering the car, even then it would still be completely useless, the engine is in the front, so that story is just an excuse they made up, Its a shame really. I hope the aftermarket can make a cover for the door without the fake intake... And the FT1, seems like it was created to make the real car look bad... How are they getting so many obvious things wrong? WHat is Toyota thinking?

I love how Toyota acts like they recreated the Supra and brought it back to the mainstream. It's nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing. That's just a BMW, plain and simple. Put the car up on a lift, and there's more BMW stamps on it than Toyota. The engine, chassis, transmission, most of the interior, is all BMW. I don't know what Toyota thinks it's doing, but I'm not fooled.

The 2020 Toyota Supra Is Super Easy To Modify Because Toyota Designed it That Way!
the body is completly diferent than bmw
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmzNNckDm4s
the car is already for tune , toyota prepered the car for aftermarked people to tune the car , some compenies in use already start very earlier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqtT7cLvudM
japan its the place for tune its good for fans do put more power in their cars and they can enjoy more and make more more power if they want because you want more and this is a endless cicle that never ends
      And more!
Toyota took apart the bmw engine after running several reliability tests and sent each and every little piece back to Japan to test and told BMW to fix before they would agree to the engine being used in their car. They care very much about the reliability and took extreme measures to make sure it met their standards than the aftermarket companies can tune the engine if they and also the car was built that way for tune!!!!
