The Lancia Stratos was a supercar like no other, but with just 492 built, values are vast. So what if you could get then Stratos look, sound and pace for £30k? Step forward Lister Bell STR kit car.

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: smarturl.it/autocar

If there's one kit car capable of leaving us besotted, it's the Lister Bell STR, a newly developed Lancia Stratos replica that is exquisitely put together. The appearance is bang on, the attention to detail is superb...and the driving position is better than the original's. Power comes from a 2.5-litre Alfa Romeo V6, which makes the right noises and, with about 190bhp, the right amount of shove. It steers and handles really sweetly, too. That you could put a lovely one together yourself for less than £30,000, or have a turn-key car for not much over £40,000, sent a lot of our staffers away to examine their finances.

It s the best looking car ever but to make really like the original I would paint the wheels light gold, that s the way it should be.

This replica can easily be a better car than the
original which was a winner in rallying and a fail as a daydriver.
Hope Lister Bell has a low weight yet taking into account it can be powered by different engines of course.

@DuBstep115 Just curious, how much for the rolling chassis in stock trim ?
At the end of the day,yet with a rich budget,I'd be writing some numbers about my Stratos project...

I was instantly thinking whats the most powerful transverse engine that can be stuffed in that. Maby Focus MK2 RS500 2.5L I5 turbo making 350hp 460Nm stock. That engine with 850kg curb weight that car would be ferrari killer.

Why isnt it red , only joking , the stratos was designed to spend most of its forward motion going round corners the short wheelbase meant that driving in a strait line was the hard bit . What a car ,designed for the job in hand . A masterpiece and often a copy can be better than the original !!!!! Ac cobra comes to mind . Well done lads .

What are they like to live in? I'm only asking because if I bin the Mrs and sell the house I could probably afford a ready made one with a little bit of petrol money left over.

1:47 the air intake is terrible. The Alfa V6 engine is amazing but its will be hot as hell in the engine bay, need to get a proper cold air intake. It looks like a good car though.

You can actually get pretty much any engine that can fit that's available to the public with this car, but you get the Alpha 166 running gear if you don't specify anything. Lister Bell will go out of their way to equip the vehicle to meet the customer's needs.

Well, if its a kit car, you're building it yourself, instead of a dissatisfied Italian building it with one hand, smoking with the other, all whilst listening to a union agitator and thinking bitterly of his wife's lover. How could it not be better?

A incredible car yes, but my tastes are a bit different. I just never could warm to the angular designs of the 70's. You know, the Fiat X-19, Triumph 7, Lotus Elise, Countach and on and on. I'm more the Lola T70, Ferarri P7, Gt40type. You must admit, it's nice we like differnt design styles, or we'd be driving boxes........
