The 2004-2008 Acura TL is one of the best Japanese sedans ever created, but it has a few design flaws that could've been better engineered. In this video, I cover the top 5 worst design issues that affect the 3rd generation Acura TL and even though these issues range from minor to relatively major, they are annoying to live with as an owner of one of these vehicles and they make me ask myself, "What was Honda/Acura thinking?" However, I still very much enjoy driving this vehicle and I hope it continues to provide me reliable transportation for years to come.

Here are my complaints on the 2007 Acura TL Type-S:
      1. The TIGHTEN FUEL CAP message is awfully annoying.
      2. The headlamp ballasts failing are EXPENSIVE.
      3. The dash cracks extensively.
      4. Master keys are expensive to replace.
      5. The lack of genuine leather in the interior. There isn't any real leather on the doors and most of the seats are not covered in real leather. What little leather there is on them is the typical poor quality leather used by Acura/Honda in the 2000s.
      6. The windshield wiper speed settings suck.

      7. This wasn't an issue for me as the Bluetooth module has already been disconnected on my TL Type-S, but yeah it will drain the battery when it stops working properly. Disconnect it. ✌

my complaint is the insane amount of buttons. There’s no telling what’s where when you first drive the car. also i prefer climate control knobs. it takes longer to get to the temperature you want if you use a button

Well, I live in Az, so I've never used the rearview mirror heater. :-) And my 2004, 6 speed TL has never been in snow, so no wheel well rust issues. But the leather upholstery is the thinnest, most flimsy I've ever seen. Mine is self destructing. This too may be weather related, even though the car is "always" garaged when not in use. My original bluetooth module is still soldiering on. No battery drain. You're right about the quirky sunglasses holder location. Doesn't bother me, though. The lack of folding rear seats isn't really a design defect in this semi-luxury sedan. And I love the engine!

The key blades not closing properly after a few years is the #1 thing that bothers me about my 2008 TL on a daily basis.

It took my 3 batteries, 2 trips to the mechanic and a google research to find our about the problem with the battery draining, I just removed the factory BT module and installed an aftermarket BT unit, problem solved.

Any car will develop rust when you drive it repeatedly on roads treated with salt. I live in a snowy climate, and although the roads don't get treated here, I don't use my "nice" car (Volvo S60) during the winter months.... we use a "beater" 4x4 ranger. We bought it "pre-uglied" so it doesn't matter if it gets dirty/muddy/rusty.

I love my 2004 TL in great shape the one thing I can't stand about it the AC power plug is right by the shifter that's one of the dumbest designs I've ever seen you can barely get to it cuz of the shifter is right there and you can't leave everything plugged into it because of shippers right there specially when you're in park and working like I do with the plug stuff in what a pain in the ass

If you don’t want to get a dead battery, can’t you just disconnect the battery I really see why not very easy to do.

      1. You want cargo space, get a minivan or pickup truck...
      2. Sunglass holder?! Stop being a pansy...
      3. Your Bluetooth is broken? Stop being lazy and fix that shit!
      4. Heated mirrors? Move somewhere warmer!
      5. Rusted wheelwells?! How about you wash your car and keep it clean of bullshit that data away at the car.

First off...cool. I don't think anyone buying a brand new Acura or even a used one is going to the hardware store and buying a bunch of lumber. I personally think the sunglasses are well placed. But I'll give you the others. Hard to nitpick.

Great reviews, love my 07 TL. Its a good car, perfect in Colorado snowstorms and handles like AWD unlike my older Maxima that used to do 360s. Was your plastic cover piece on drivers seat failing off, I noticed it was a common problem on these models and dealer wants 400$ for this part.

Rephael Morgan It's very reliable and parts are not that expensive if you service it in the US. It's about the same to maintain as a Honda Accord
