End the crew cab / super cab debate. 101 pound difference (curb weight on an XLT). About a half a tank of gas.

what if you compare the 3.5 and the 2.7 against a 5.0 twin turbo?

What year is that 5.0? The 2018 is supposed to have 460hp, not 395, and mine has Sport mode, which makes a HUGE difference in acceleration.

Turbos will win but you’ll NEVER come close to advertised mpg numbers. My last car was turbo, 30mpg hwy. I achieved 1mpg at times

I’ve owned 6 Ecoboost engines spanning 2011 to 2019. Not one failure. Not one repair, just normal maintenance.
      Good engines.

@sukhoi31m3 Completely agree with good oil every 5K. I have 197K on my 2010 Nissan Pathfinder. Change the oil every 5500-6500 miles using Mobil 1. I haven't had to change the plugs, which has shocked me. This thing runs like a top and I definitely don't baby it. Thanks for the reply!

My first one, an ‘11 went 140k before I traded it in. It was still running very strong. My wife’s ‘11 Platinum went 60k before trading it in (she gets a new car every 2-3 years). Her second one, a ‘14 Plat went around 60k and then she went into a ‘17 Expedition with the 3.5, 48k on it. I’m currently driving a ‘18 XLT with the 3.5 and she just bought a Lincoln Nautilus with the 2.7. All the 3.5s ran like a top when traded in. For me the key was 5000 mile oil changes with a quality synthetic oil and Motorcraft filter, run top tier gas - we used 89 or 91-93. Motorcraft sparkplugs and air filter every 45-50k. Zero oil consumption on all of them. Don’t be scared to drive the daylights out of the thing, it’s good to keep them blown out. Don’t try to hyper-mile one, they love to be worked.

How many miles are you putting on them? I am looking at a F150 with either Ecoboost motor, but want to get at least 200K miles out of it.

These drag race comparisons do not mean much in the real world. The 5 liter is less complicated, easier to maintain over the years, and, probably will outlive the 2.7 engine.

    • Allegronaut

I like the tuner testing, but again, the extended cab is going to weigh less than the crewcabs. We don't know what the axle ratios are as well, we need those and truck weights for comparison. Just imagine what an ecoboost 5.0L would do in this test!

You can make anything run with the proper Turbo or supercharger... naturally aspirated the 2.7 and 3.5 wouldn't get out of its own way
