The Honda Civic Type R is the most powerful Civic ever, but is that the only reason why it costs more than $10k over the Honda Civic Si. In this review I will breakdown the features of the 2019 Civic Si and show where the 2019 Honda Civic Type R garners the higher asking price. Find out all the details in this epic review!

Holy sh*t there's way too many wires, tubes & hoses on the SI engine...I like how older SI engines were simple & not so much going on.

5:35 no metal! my Celica GT with the factory TRD body kit had a metal grill and its all rusted and gross being a 17 year old car. That rubbery plastic will never rust, worst that will happen is it will fade color from the sun but that is easily fixed.

I don't mean to sound like your typical 'know-it-all' but I'm pretty sure any person who is a 'non car expert' could easily look at these two cars and know off the bat that the Type-R is the more expensive vehicle. Honestly, I don't know why I would assume that? Perhaps it could be the wing? Maybe the vents? The Vortex generators, definitely gotta be them! No, wait... the rear diffusers? Oh, it has to be the triple exhaust! Or perhaps the hood scoop would most likely give it away. My guess it's the 20 inch Wheels.
But what do I know, I'm just some schmuck leaving a comment on YouTube ; )

Dear Honda, please get rid of those hideous front & rear fake vents on the type R and make it an all wheel or RW drive. I will be the first one in line to pick one up.

+Wolf Man The Subaru is usually dramatically cheaper in regard to real-world pricing (like, in some cases, the difference between a STI and Type R can be upwards of $7,500+ depending on the area - with huge variation, buyers should price both in their area.) In terms of speed, the Subaru has a slight upper hand on straight-line acceleration through most speeds someone will see on the street, whereas the CTR is the stronger corner carver and it gains an increasingly bigger advantage as things get increasingly twisty.

As much as I wish the vents were functional and I will never understand why they went with nonfunctional ones when they could have just been functional, lord knows the type R especially needs more air and cooling, cause everyone says those cars get hot under the hood, I like the look of the vents, even fake. It breaks up the color on the front end and rear a bit and gives it more of a sporty look instead of your normal grocery getting look. Why they put them on the standard models? nooo fuckin clue.

The only things I'm left with is 1. Is the suspension actually better or do the larger wheels give it the illusion that the car is more planted because if rides rougher?

And 2. Is it actually worth the additional $6,000 CAD? If it had Brembos with adaptive exhaust, Bilstein/KW manufactured suspension, I'd say yes.

But as is, I'd rather the regular Si. Only thing keeping me from wanting one is the fact it has an electronic parking brake and costs $25,200 before taxes.

I'd take one only if the car were $22K OTD new. At $25,200, I can't see myself in it. 86 has a better chassis, my WRX has the ability to make far more power with Bolt ons, the GTI is more adult appearing and practical. The Si is really good but it needs to be priced like a Fiesta ST for me to go through with it.

If it was an actual $10,000 difference I might have bought a Type R instead of the Si. As it stands, dealers regularly mark it up an additional $5,000 to $10,000. It’s definitely not worth a $15,000-$20,000 difference, especially when you can get Si’s brand new for around $22,000.

Civic Si were very good with the K20 from 2006 to 2011 with a decently light coupe, it went not so good with the 2012-2015 Si with the K24, yes you have more torque but you got a more heavy car with a less rev happy engine. And then there goes the new Si 1.5l Turbo that make less HP on paper and also perform much worse on the road once tuned than a simple 8th Gen 06-11 civic with intake/header/exhaust with a kpro tune or a flashpro.
