The new, 2018 Ford Raptor features a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 which shares its architecture with several other Ford cars from the Explorer to the Ford GT supercar. It seems Ford has left quite a bit of power on the table, because Hypercar Engineering of Charlotte, NC seems to have found an extra 125 Wheel Horsepower and 172 lb/ft of torque with an upgraded true dual 3" exhaust, all-aluminum intercooler, and an ECU tune. That is an excellent figure, and so Matt headed out to some California Fire Roads for a quick blast.

Hello everyone! Thanks for watching. As always, when we show a tuner car, debates flare up in the comments about the validity of dyno testing. Apparently, everyone is a cheat, except the guy you use, right? Anyway, I have contacted HyperCar Development for some clarification on the exact dyno equipment so the accused "artificially low" numbers can be verified, as well as sent notes to other tuners to check if the gains in power are comparable to what others are seeing with similar setups. If/when I hear back, I will post follow-ups here rather than responding to individual comments. The goal is honesty, transparency, and someone selling a package that works as advertised, but the fact is that all dyno machines read differently, and, again, all that matters is the GAINS, not the stock and ending numbers. If +125HP/+175TQ is consistent across the industry with this setup, then there is no reason to question the dyno figures, because they do what they do correctly - show GAINS. However, if something feels fishy, my allegiance is to the audience, not the tuner, and I plan to share that information if I get it.

My personal stance on the matter is that it would be pretty stupid for a company to lie about their dyno numbers and then print hundreds of cards out with that chart on it to, give away at a show and have people like me show on camera. You're litterally setting up a model that can't be replicated later by the customer. Pretty stupid indeed. The whole door was full of those cards. I do not think these are stupid people, so I will take their data at face value until I have reason to believe otherwise. Considering this is an off-the-shelf package, customers gains should be consistent with my test car and the printed chart.

Great response to the “YouTube keyboard” dyno experts. All of these viewers (some own vehicles in question and some dream) but few people build anything at all. I have dyno tested the same motorcycle at two shops in Huntington Beach, Ca. on a Friday and Saturday respectively and received figures that varied. Both shops were at sea level, temperature and humidity were within a few degrees and the fuel was not switched. I haven’t dyno tested my 2018 F-150 Limited 4wd yet. I don’t really care what the stock whp is on a vehicle I bought to put the dogs in the back seat, but I have a 5-Star tune (91 octane), mechanical BOV, Full-Race intercooler and TBS, Air Raid conical intake, Stainless Works down pipe with high flow cats and a SPD turbo adapter with stock muffler because the exit pipe diameter is the same size as most aftermarket systems. But with TC off, I can roast tires for days on stock 22” inch wheels and gears. With TC on, I can still break the tires loose for 15 to 20 feet before the ECU cuts power and corrects. That’s my dyno. Ass to seat - foot to floor. AND to add insult to another keyboard expert... Nvr Dwn Hennessey is not the best benchmark for honesty, integrity and build quality. There is a reason that they have been sued over and over again at a pace like the second-hand on a time clock. And BTW... since I think you’re a keyboard car enthusiast and likely own a Corolla, Forza is not real racing and stickers don’t add HP.

lol what a joke. dyno companies always claim dynojet's numbers are super padded, and yes it is true they are generally higher than a quality dyno with an eddy brake, but that's their SOFTWARE. anybody at anytime on any dyno can fudge numbers through software. 275 rwhp is inaccurate, period.

Ive always wondered why Raptor dyno numbers have always been so low vs F250 Powerstroke's/ Cummins/ Duramax which have half the associated drivetrain loss of a Raptor, same goes for Escalades if people gonna blame drivetrain losses on the type of fuel it burns.

And those numbers. It has been widely reported that with the '18 version of the ecoboost, the hp/torque numbers were 450/510. I dont know what you got there, but it sure doesnt seem to be the '18 version. I'm with ya on the need for proper sound, though.

Looks sharp, but that doesnt look like it has US-required front bumper to meet safety regs. I would have preferred to see a street-legal version in this video.

You know this truck is like any off road vehicle. If you don’t know what you doing going off road you’ll tear the sob up as stressful as shit. The truck is not impervious to damage. All the videos you see are the raptor speeding on a dirt road. A Jeep cannot do that. The Raptor is marketing home run for ford.

Paddles are great, til you get into hard stop to stop turns and need to grab gears. That being said, I don't like my button shift either. A manual would end this all!! Yeah.

What driving mode were you in? If you were driving in normal that would make a huge difference vs Baja or even Sport. So much so that I'd wager all that extra power in Normal mode would be the equivalent of a stock truck in Baja mode.
