This is the first installment of the 2004 3.2L TL Engine Replacement series. There's a bit of a bonus with this series in that the vehicle getting the engine has a manual transmission. The engine we're using came out of a vehicle with an automatic. So for those of you interested in an automatic to manual swap, this gives you a pretty good indication of what you're up against. BTW, you would also need to swap computers if you were going from automatic to manual.

Those plugs also strip easy under an idiot's tender caressing hand. Ford drain plugs are the same thread pattern and a little longer to reach those virgin threads in the back of the pan if you come across one.

If the engine had a bad cylinder head why not just change the head?? Fitting a new cambelt and a new clutch before putting the replacement engine in, because it would EASY while the engine is out. With drain plugs, people often over tighten them, which damages the threads, eventually the sump threads give up, normally only replacing the copper washer is necessary.

I'm doing this job on a similar car with the same engine more or less (accord) except it's an automatic and both engine and transmission need to be replaced! first of all I wasn't supplied with a wheel lock key Either, WTF! every time I swear to God! anyway I envy you for having a lift!☺ I really feel like the hardest part of this job is removing all the wiring unlessI'm missing something! Honda should have used one of those quick disconnect boxes on the wiring harness before it goes through the firewall this way you don't have to unplug everything while the engine and transmission are in the car but I'll finish watching the video and probably find out they did use something like that! okay just finished the video so this is an edit! right around 29:00 those were the plugs I was talking about except the Accord I'm working on does not have those! ughhhh! looks like I have to remove the intake manifold plenum just to unplug the injectors!

Eric, are there any situations where it would be acceptable to use chrome sockets on an electric/pneumatic impact gun rather than proper hardened sockets? What about accessories such as extensions and swivel adapters?

Eric, thanks for all your great videos. Question for ya. You made a comment since the car you are working on was a manual transmission its better to remove from the top. I need to replace the rear main seal and the oil pump seals on my 04' 5AT. Would you recommend I follow this same procedure? Or would the sub-frame route be easier?

      Keep up the great work!
