When compared to rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, it's not surprising that off-road prowess is the Jeep Cherokee’s ace-in-the-hole. But how does it fare in the real world? KBB’s Micah Muzio has the answer.

Perfect review, I’ve been looking for a review on any other KL besides the trail hawk that would show the off road side of the more common edition’s and this is perfect. Definitely helped me decide what I want

Great review you guys did .. in every way. Cool for me to see this as I am really interested in picking up one circa 2015/2016 so two years old on the edge of three since we are into June now. I am a Jeep Grand Cherokee owner since my 1996 and then my 2000 which I still have. There is something about Jeep that kinda feels right to me ... you can drive it to the 'dance' at the ball and up to a fancy house party and it fits in and it is great for casual times too ... it is an all-arounder to me ! My previous Jeeps are gas-hogs though ... that is their worst trait ( but they were Grand Cherokees ) ... if this one is too then it would be a deal breaker. I was considering a move to a sedan but have been testing them out ( renting and friends sedans ) and find it feels low-down when in traffic which makes me feel a bit overwhelmed and unsafe and unseen after all my years in the up-high Grand Cherokees. Just writing all this in case anyone has similar sentiments or added input either pro or con the 'Cherokee' which I would appreciate.

you'll never get 30mpg on the highway with the 4 banger. Its so underpowered it barely ever sees 8th gear and never gets into 9th. I regularly see 23-24 mpg on the highway in a 4 cylinder Cherokee. Honestly you're better off getting the v6, it only get 1 mpg less around town and is actually better on the highway because it has the power it needs to use top gear.

Cory H I understand perfectly. I've driven every brand new Chrysler in the fleet besides the Pacifica and I know the zf 9 speed trans very well. That being said, the fact of the matter in the 2.4l Jeep Cherokee is simply underpowered. Even at speeds well above 80 you will never ever see 9th gear, hell even the renegade which had the same drivetrain but it's much lighter only really sees 9th on a downhill. Whereas my pentastar 200 that actually has the necessary power can get into 9th around 65-70. On anything other than perfectly flat smooth roads you are going to see better highway numbers in the v6 Cherokee

Nick Loss you clearly do not understand the jeep, or even bother to read the booklet that it came with. The booklet clearly tells you that 9th gear will not engage unless you exceed speeds of 80 mph, which you do not really see unless you drive up north like Montana, or if speed on an interstate. Also, you probably have a lead foot because to get those numbers you would have to be constantly flooring the jeep. Finally the four banger is not meant for speed but for fuel economy. Wake up!!

They are simply like every other soccer mom awd out there.xOnly the very expensive trailhawk version has a locking rear diff and off road rated.xThe stock 4 banger has plenty of power for the weight of the vehicle. And if you intend to tow something large, these compact SUVs are a poor choice.xThese jeeps are ideal grocery getters and soccer mom wagons

I have the basic 2017 cherokee latitude 4 banger fwd cloth seats...So far so good
I now have 200 + miles and no problems. When I put it in reverse the brakes make a strange sound but they stop really good...Never heard of new cars using oil but this one seems to be... if it was full when I bought it.. it is down about 1/2 qt...Jeep says it will use some oil when breaking in the engine....I am a compulsive buyer I just had to have it and well I got it...I am not really a fan of american made vehicles but thought I would give this jeep cherokee a chance..Hope I made a good choice I have $29,000.00 invested..Chrysler should concentrate on making the highest quality vehicle
possible..A happy customer is a repete customer....Once behind the wheel and I was hooked..Take one for a ride... I think you will like it as well.....

My friend has a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. His maintenance light came on. Next, he took
it to the dealership for service. Two days later the dealership replaced his engine.
He had around 15,000 miles on his Jeep.
