You gotta love the old 12 valve Cummins 5.9.  That's what a proper diesel sounds like.

I suspect the 3000HP MTU is 65 litre rather than 6.5 (apart from the numbers, it's the size of a small house) :)

I have been working on diesel engines for a loooong time. You forgot the greatest. 71 series Detroit. (Gray Marine) My friend Jerry saw the Gray Marine 6-71 at the Chicago Worlds Fair in 1934. G.M. bought the design from Gray Marine (a British company) a few year later and built that engine series until they outlawed it in 1999. Hard to break, easy to fix, the 6-71 won WWll. The atomic bomb decided which day it ended. A lot of other engine series developed from that design.

Super interesting! Wish I would have watched before, on our latest YouTube video, I take our engine apart. As a female accountant, with no experience whatsoever, we can only hope she starts when I am finished!

A ship's diesel engine, one of the greatest diesels ever - I doubt it. No mention of one of the real best ever diesel engines, Gardner diesel engines of Manchester England.

What! No mention of Perkins. Been powering Ag equipment for years. I even had one in my Mazda 2200 truck.

Sadly the Detroit Diesel leaked more oil than the State of California produces in a year. We use to have topsoil delivered in trucks with Detroits in them. The drivers would dump the soil, then pop the hood and add another gallon of oil. A oil patch was left under the truck.
Perkins makes a super reliable, fuel efficient diesel. We used to go commercial fishing for 3 days on 50 gallons of diesel.

10 of the greatest AMERICAN diesels ever and the VW V10 which was plagued by reliability issues. Where are the Mercedes OM engines, the Italian VM Motori, the BMW bi and triturbos, the 1600 Volkswagen engine that went on forever on a drop of diesel, I can go on and on.

60 liter times 61 cubic inches per liter does not equal 1200 cubic inches it equals 3661 CID so something is wrong with your statement.

Should have also included the 6-71 GMC diesel, or any of the 70 series 2 strokes. Also left out was the legendary 3208 Caterpillar.
