Best bumper sticker on a Prius so far. Driving around and got a little giggle. Just made my day.

I drove a Corolla hatch... Really liked the looks and interior...road noise was unbearable.... If they fixed that it would be a good car... Sounds like you're in an airliner going 500

I love it but ran over a piece of flopping metal on the freeway a few weeks ago that caused some under carriage damage and minor scratches on the lower right bumper which is devastating for me being the car is brand new but I just love her! ☺

Will Toyota make an alert to prevent some people from leaving the engine running after getting out of the car? I just read the news about some senior that died from leaving the car engine running and getting into his home to sleep, seems that the room was next to the garage or something.

I just bought my Corolla hybrid and feel a little overwhelmed. My first hybrid ever. Not sure if I made a good choice. I might be better off if I just got a regular Corolla which is good in mileage too.

We have a great dealer too but the lot isn’t big enough. I’m so glad the hybrid doesn’t have a black interior. Much more tasteful colors.

For those wondering, (MG1) HP is 121 with a (MG2) 53kw electric motor translating to 71HP each producing 105lb-ft torque

There sure is a lot of noise inside this vehicle. Do you have to buy a Camry to get a quiet vehicle? I'd like to see a dB rating for this Corolla at 65 mph. To keep the weight down it appears Toyota has skimped on the noise reduction design and materials.

I get 70 mpg in the city with my Honda Insight and I don't have to pay a single cent for hydro to plug it in....... since it's a Hybrid (not a plug-in Hybrid either)

The Prius Prime is not a significant different design, its a hybrid with a larger 8.8kw battery and tweaks to allow you to plug it in.
Yes, oil breaks down, but not from just sitting. SMH. The recommended intervals for the Hybrids and newer Toyota engines running the toyota synthetic is 10,000miles or 16,000km.
The difference in feeling from a dead start isn't Horsepower, its torque. Electric motors produce high torque from 0 RPM

Recommend as in don't fuck up and go past 16k KM. I do my oil change on my 19 Camry hybrid every 8k. Oil is cheaper than a new engine. For 20-30 bucks more than a usual inspection, I can have em do the oil too.

So how fast can you drive in traffic before the gas engine kicks on? Like I can be on traffic at 5 mph for how long or how fast?

    • Stephen Gillie
Stephen Gillie In reply to D. Reyna

At full charge, 5mph on flat will go like a mile. Usually I can go from one stoplight to the next, up to 15-20 mph, with no engine. I've got the LE which has the better battery, which helps I think.

The engine kicks in when it's needed - sometimes it turns off at 50-60 mph when you're coasting downhill or other situations. The last model year needed the engine on above 50mph, but mine of this model has turned off the engine at 70 mph before.

Toyota should've used the newer Lithium-ion batteries in the Corolla Hybrid, instead of the older Ni-MH batteries. Lithium-ion is more efficient & will usually yield up to 20% better gas mileage than Ni-MH. They also need to put in better sound deadening materials to quiet the cabin. Hopefully the steering isn't too light either.

Test drove the Honda insight. Loaded with features but engine is coarse sounding and whiny. Didn't like it. Try out the Kia forte. Ended up going with that and love it.

I find it annoying as well that Toyota didn't put Lithium-ion batteries in the Corolla hybrid. I would have easily bought this car if it had Lithium-ion instead of Ni-Mh batteries. But now I'm having a hard choice between the Honda insight or the Corolla hybrid.

Don't trust the nickel–cadmium battery that Toyota uses. BTW, he who has the biggest flag wins!! Not really but a lot of people seem to think so.

You say that this car has the same transmission as a Prius, but I’m almost certain I can discern gear shifting in the rev-counter. How’s the transmission the same with a Prius when the Prius doesn’t actually have any gears?
