Yea forced induction is fun but longevity is in question. If it is a lease or you upgrade every 5 years all is good BUT if you plan on keeping it 10 plus years the 5.0 is the only choice.

Does anyone talk about the 3.5 non Ecoboost engine?

I have a f150 with it. It will tow my 8000rv no problem and gets good gas mileage. I think it's the most underated engine.

No, because it's not that good. And nowadays it's a 3.3

I'd much rather have a naturally aspirated engine over a forced induction engine any day of the week as far as reliability. Turbo's ain't cheap to replace if for whatever reason it ever runs without oil pressure on top of the fact you can't just use a can of carb cleaner or fuel additive to clean the combustion chambers without risking screwing the turbo up. So again I'd go for the V8 just for that reason alone.

I like the 5.0l because it has the same amount of power as the other one but it you want more there are many things you can do. It also sound better.

All those claiming problems with the EcoBoost engines should just put a catch can on them to eliminate a plethora of potential future problems. Ford should put them on stock.

I like the design, MPG, HP and Torque numbers on the 3.5, its the reliability issues associated w/ Ford products that kept me away and y I have a Limited TRD Crewmax 4x4 Tundra instead

The Tundra is the most obsolete truck on the market you're paying for a new truck that was designed and introduced over 12 years ago. Search (Toyota frame rust) the owners had to sue Toyota to make them replace rotten frames on Tundras and Tacomas, it's costing Toyota over $3.4 billion just for phase-1 because they lost that law suit. Toyota takes care of their customers...only after they loose in court and the NHTSA forces a recall. And there's the infamous Tundra limp home mode after air pump system failure etc, etc...

Engines run killer. I live West Ohio aka everyone has a Ford pickup. Alot of people are having timing chain problems @ or under 100k. That 2.7/3.5 is a hefty repair bill for one too.

Ford has been perfecting the small block V-8 since the 1960's (289/302) I personally believe this version is about as close to perfect as possible. I hope they keep it an option.

If you're buying a used truck with a good bit of miles I'd go V8. If you're buying a new or barely used truck with warranty and don't plan on keeping it past 100k miles I'd go V6 Eco. After 100k miles on the ecos you're gambling on major breakdown even if you completed planned maintenance to a T. Turbo'd engines in my experience always have issues the older they get. Lets be honest, both types of engines have their upsides but when it comes to longevity I'd put my  money on the V8. Mind you I'm currently rebuilding my 2011 3.5 Eco as I'm second owner of a 1st generation designed engine. I have a bruised ass from kicking myself in it so many times for not doing my research on the eco engine before purchasing it.

A 2.7 pushing that much torque is not going to last as long as an understressed 5.0 NA engine. It's not worth getting the turbo V6 if you're wanting to keep your truck past 150k miles.
