As awesome as new motorcycles are, not everyone can afford $20,000 or even $10,000 for a showroom bike. In this episode, Zack and Ari set out to get a motorcycle and gear for less than $1,000, and show (hopefully) that you don't have to break the bank to enjoy life on two wheels!

The Katana was a great bike. Not a top of the line sport bike, but still a lot of fun and a great comfy tourer. Very popular. Why the bad rap? I like them and others must have too.

anyone who rode a suzuki katana in the 90s probably felt like they were jean claude van damme or a power ranger or a ninja turtle or robocop. must ve been great.

All told, for me, it was $200 MSF class + $900 CL Motorcycle + $250 gear (pants, jacket, gloves, boots off ebay, helmet new) + $300 years worth of GOOD insurance + $90 taxes + $160 new tires + $40 DMV fees ~= $2,000

I know this is an old video but $1,000 for gear and a bike is a pipe dream. I have a 25 year old motorcycle I bought that was a little more than two grand and it required at least $600 in parts.I also found a list of other things I haven't even gotten to yet.not to mention the 300 or so dollars you have to spend on gear at the very least . This video is so unrealistic. Coming from someone who has been in riding for a month. Oh yeah get a used bike you only have to replace a throttle cable clutch cable clutch pack blinkers tail light
Hacking some wiring together wheel bearings chain and sprockets break pads and that's the small list to be safe on the road and could you imagine what I would have to pay to have a mechanic do all that! I have another list that runs at least a full page including the speedometer that stopped working. I swear I replace one thing another thing breaks instantly. Do not buy a Craigslist bike buy something especially if you're a new rider that's being sold at a dealership new or used. At least they will make sure that the bare necessities are taken care of before you buy it learn from my mistake.

150 on the speedo. Is that MPH or 150K miles?

That money here in northern Michigan will get you a basket case or a really crapped out early 80's bike.Almost all say need carbs cleaned. So that means not run in years or at all.

the gsxf750 katana is a very beautiful bike to me, it´s been one my favorite bikes for years. it has the unique suzuki design style of that era, harmonious and aerodynamic, with those rounded edges that are better than today´s sharp and angular design that prevails in vehicles design, which i find incredibly ugly, plus the best part about it which is the generous comfortable seats, and an actually usable rear seat, since i ride as a passenger that is important to me, as opposed to today´s motorcycle seats where the back seat gets smaller and unusable everyday [80´s and 90´s is the golden era of motorcycles to me]. i don´t like that you insulted its appearance. your remark annoyed me profoundly

That isn’t a “military” belt to keep your belt up, it is a rifle sling.

I bought my katana for 2500. Granted its in pretty great condition, 12k miles and everything was rebuilt by my friend (the guy i bought it from). Looking online near me i can't even find a katana for 1k that's in the condition mine is in. Most need excessive work or have no titles.

If you bump your budget up to 3k you can do very well for both gear and finding a NICE used bike. That was my budget and I am very happy.
