Scotty, I’ve been looking into a buying a bmw e36 M3, or even converting a non M e36 into a M3, I’m a young college student that isn’t working full time but I have a huge passion for these cars, what are your thoughts ?

I miss my FATHER'S 1964 Oldsmobile. 330 V8 with rockershaft OHV. Ran like the well oiled machine it was. 300K miles.
Chrysler also had beautiful small rockershaft V8's with smooooth valve train. Valve job with hardened seats, good for another 300,000 miles. And automatics that were tough and simple.

Formerly known as MR. POON_HUNT3R this is the most ignorant statement I’ve seen on here. Germans did not lose ww2 because of engineering. Their engineering was far more superior than the rest of the world. They lost because they were fighting against most of the entire world (and Russian casualties the greatest)

Matthew Evans "If BMWs have good engines, why do I see so many of them burning oil out their tailpipe when they are only 2-3 years old?"
They are good because they are well-oiled.

Amateurs, you can put the turbo first and then when you blw up the engine, you can rebuild the engine anyways xD, hilarious

I had a 88 bmw 325IS with 280000 miles on it. Didnt burn or leak a speck of oil. Ran great. The problem was all of the eletric problems with wipers, lights and signals and the sensor system. Scotty hit the nail on the head with this one...

The Chevy Cruze auto transmission is in fact not the worst they made, My Chevy Citation 1982 automatic 3 speed was the worst transmission it was repaired once under warranty (4000 miles) at 30,000 miles it just died and was replaced at my expense. This vehicle was a 4 cylinder and many that I am aware of were problematic. Just dumped it as the symptoms of oncoming failure were back at about 60000. The vehicle was in my opinion a piece of crap.

BMW straight six petrol engines are generally decent. Some inherent issues though. Oil leaks, ignition coils and warped rocker cover gaskets are fairly common. I spent quite a lot of money keeping my E60 525i on the road. Great car to drive but a few annoying and expensive niggles. Diesels can return decent economy for their power but repair costs can negate this.

Fiats are the best cars. You can rebuild the small 4 cylinders over and over and run them.forever. just make sure ths body is not rusting out like swiss cheese holes under neither. That is why Tony fixes it again and again, F-ix I-t A-gain T-ony ..LOL FIAT ALL THE WAY..

      I hope he didn’t take Scotty’s advice on the e46 M3.

DO NOT BUY especially if it’s an SMG.
Rod bearings, cracked subframes, vanos pumps, smg pumps and the list goes on.
The rod bearings issue is the worst... if they haven’t been replaced then stay away.

MY 9 YR APYR COST? = $2,145 /YR .. Isn't that Nice? The Next Ownner ought to do ok, since I restored it for that $2,300 of that $5,300 in repairs with new tires, brakes, shocks, tie rods, ball joynts, etc.. Told him to Just Change the Oil every 5,000 miles with Synthedic and the Air Filter too...Fram is Good Enough... FYI- Don't Go with a Lease Car unless for Business and its tax deductable.. you have to Put 20% down to pay that $300=-$400 mo lease price////

Friends never buy a BMW X5 or any other German junk. Inherent defects with the camshaft, timing chain, cooling system leaks , head gasket/oil pan leaks and garbage transmission. Toyota/Lexus/Honda/Acura best for style reliability, end of story !

Hey I have a i5 Series and it does come with a turbo charger and is NOT a money pit we only do a big tune up once a year. Also I have an Infiniti G35 with G37 features and it has saved me so much money. It has never broken down on me after 130,000 miles and I’m still driving it. Infiniti’s are awesome cars and so are BMW’s

you need to remember Scotty hasn’t been a mechanic for a while now, he’s going off of info from 10 years ago, Toyota these days are not reliable as he makes them seem. And the new generation of BMWs are much more reliable
