Most people don't consider the Lexus IS250 when looking for a sporty saloon car. I try and figure out why that is, and if the Lexus is worth considering.

I own a 2007 IS250 AWD . My first Lexus, I been having very good luck with Toyota. IS250 is my test out on Lexus. It is very nice(By that I means it just hit 300,000 miles still drives and runs good).  But you have a good point. My next car will be IS350 F Sport AWD .

I own 2nd hand is250 for about 8-9 yrs that clocked in at 40k mileage (probably rigged), still drives like new, ZERO problems, this car feels like it can go on for the next 10 years and feels like nothing can go wrong with it. Too dependable.. never getting a beemer or a merc... next car would be the latest IS, but won’t sell this one... real keeper

I have a 57 plate IS250 as my daily. Bought it 2 years ago with 52k miles for £5,290. It's now got 92k miles and I have no plans to replace it. Mine has the flappies, which makes up for the slow-ish changes. Torque sweetspot is 2500 - 4000 rpm. Keep it in that range and it feels pretty spritely; taken many a BMW driver by surprise trying to keep up with me on the twisties.

One question, why on earth have you had 12 of them?

I don't have it yet, i am going looking at it tomorrow. It's a 2008 with only 70k miles and it looks clean as a whistle.. its £5k with my focus as part exchange. I will ask if it has a full Lexus service history. I will take it for a test drive and give it some thought. Do you think it is a good price?

I had an issue on a 2007 IS250 with a knocking noise from the top end of the engine. It was something to do with the VVT system. Its quite a common problem unfortunately

They did make a an IS wagon in the first generation, but that was it. I don't care for the new body style on the third generation. The second generation was perfectly elegant without trying too hard like the third generation.

My friend had a black IS 250 with an automatic gearbox, I loved it. On the the back of that I bought an IS220D Sport 07 plate, loved the car but head gasket went at 132k! Beware it was a common fault that Lexus U.K don't acknowledge. Check it out loads out there about the diesels hence why they stopped doing them. Petrol cars though are bomb proof generally.

      I own an 09 IS250 AWD
Spot on with all the review!!
Engine does sound good for a V6 204hp when you hit the gas!
In cool temperature with KN Air Filter, she goes and sounds good!!
I abuse my 250 and barely maintain it...94K miles and still pulls hard and drives like new...few cosmetic imperfection for a 10 year old car...but I’m driving and keeping this thing till it catches on fire LOL!!! So funny, my car is 10 years old and still gets compliment everytime I was and detail it....IS250 is more than enough capable as a daily driver...I’ve got Atleast 100-150K mikes more to go before I decide to let her go...another 7-10 years??!!

Same in France : only the 2.5 V6 was available. I tried one in 2012, pretty good car and then I tried a 218hp 2.5 BMW 325i E92 (Coupé, I know) and the choice was quietly easy. I bought the bimmer and kept it for 3yrs. I never gave up in owning the IS one day but I’m scared to be annoyed by the shyness of its behavior.

I had a 2012 IS250 Advance Auto with Xenons. It was fully loaded, had an amazing build quality to it but that’s all I liked. The Xenons were rubbish, the engine sounded like a sewing machine and had no torque. I permanently had it in sport mode to make up for it but it was disappointing. Rear traction was awful in wet weather. I got rid of it after a year for a C220 CDI Merc Coupe, a much better car 👍🏻

I'm considering getting one of these as a runaround car, though I think I'd rather get a manual, as from everything I've heard the auto emphasises the lack of power. The 4GR V6 is distantly related to the 1GR in my Hilux, so I'm sure somebody out there makes a supercharger for it :)

My last car was an IS250, full beige interior auto with shift paddles as you say it is not the fastest in it's class but I did enjoy it a lot.
Unfortunately it developed a primary cat failure on bank 2 and this is the one that is built into the header pipe so not a cheap replacement it was low mileage for the year so I do not know why it failed and it was not a sensor problem becuse the sensor voltages matched the other side.
Anyway I traded it for a CT which I posted about on your CT review I do mourn the IS though it sounded better then the CT and was fun when you combined a lead foot with the paddles, incidently mine also manual shifted on the stick which was also fun but a lot of the time I just wafted along in limo mode the cabin was a nice place to be with very comfortable seats yet held you firmly.
I think mine was a 2007 and I am critical of the sat nav as it only went up to 5 digits on the post code and not the easiest to use I am equally critical of the CT sat nav regarding ease of use even though it is six digit if manufacturers just ran Android then all criticism would dissapear as there would be a nav app that would suit anyone.
As always Lexus do a good job but because nowadays I watch pennies, yes it is boring, I wish Lexus had got into the EV sector no doubt they will have to add an EV to their range but there does not seem to be any indication when.

+High Peak Autos I can understand why you like the LC500 it is a beautifull car combining luxury with sporty looks and performance, 10 speeds !, I heard they actually engineered the engine sound for extra aural pleasure. lol.
There is the H version of course and with a V6 engine sounds so much better then then inline 4 in the CT200h clearly it does not have the performance of the V8 but still looks and sounds attractive to me I am not sure what the used prices are like but I would imagine it will still be an expensive car and fuel economy will not be in it's job description so it cannot be blamed for that.
