Most people don't consider the Lexus IS250 when looking for a sporty saloon car. I try and figure out why that is, and if the Lexus is worth considering.

Used to own an is220d until it blew a head gasket and cylinder head cracked. Loved it to death, except the engine and manual gearbox (long gearing and dangerously slow pickup or lag at low revs), man was it shit. (EGR issues too) but it had tons of torque.
Everything else was amazing. I swear once I find a 250 in decent shape I’m getting one.

      Had a Merc and Audi.
      Never again. Complete money pits.
Have had a Lexus GS 300 for 7 years now bought it second hand.
      Incredible reliability.
I'll never get a German car again.
      Tremendously over rated vehicles.
      Wake up people.
Unless you go for top of the Range Mercedes, BMW or Audi there not very good quality at all.

I have a 06 is250 6 speed with 249k miles. Running like a champ! Most reliable car I've ever had. Slow af in my opinion compared to my previous 10 BMW 535 and 06 Audi s4. ..but she does the job commuting from Jersey to philly. Would definitely buy another Lexus

+High Peak Autos Wow I'm shocked, in southern africa we only the 250 and 350, with no awd options... I have a mate that loved BMW, he took an IS250 for a drive and loved it, he loves lexus as a brand overall now. I am thinking of getting an IS350 and plan on modifying it a bit, since Swaziland is part of the British protectorate it should be fairly easy to come here from the UK, so once the project is complete if you're still doing youtube videos I'll fly you out and you can show the world some of the rare toys we are fortunate enough to be allowed to import...

Beautiful car but be Cautious with IS250...they suffer from Bad Carbon build up due to the Direct Injection system....Lexus Recall...that's why I haven't upgraded from my IS200 Sport...if you have an is250...thrash once a week if you do a lot of town driving...red line thrashing.. that's the prevention of Carbon build am...

Chris McNie In reply to TheMuzikall

why does everyone point this out like its a unique problem with lexus? Every bmw, mercedes, and audi use the same kind of direct injection system and suffer from the same problem. Lexus actually fixed the problem in 2012 and added port injection as well just like the is350 always had. The Germans still haven't fixed it not to mention any of the other manufacturers using GDI

I have an 06' and it still feels like nothing will ever go wrong with it. So much spec. Front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry, sat nav/reverse camera, heated seats, xenons, pwr folding wing mirrors and it all works! Nothing has failed in 13 years not like bmw 325ci, which I ended up having to use the actual key in the lock to open it....just like my dad's old nissan bluebird. On a run I've got it to 35-38mpg but I'd rather spend the money and hear the engine a bit more. Has been a very satisfying buy.

Hi! It's not very efficient to be honest. You will get 23MPG around town and 33MPG on the motorway. But it is a great car and reliable too so its worth paying a little extra for fuel in my opinion

The engines in these have problems with carbon buildup. Not the best from Lexus. The IS220d is problematic as well. I think they are the worst cars that Lexus ever made.

It depends on what your looking for if your want performance then No it's to heavy and steering is bit numb. If you want luxury with slightly sporty feel then IS250 is fine. I've owned 08' IS350 and 11' ISF and have driven IS250 so very familiar with all three models. I still have my ISF after 8yrs and no major issues.

Now I'm 20 and have been thinking about getting rid of my manual focus mk1 and changing it up. I use it to commute to work but stop start traffic is a nightmare! I have been looking at used Jaguar XF s mainly the petrol V8 5.0 NA (The nice rumble makes my knees weak! ) Could this potentially be better at my age and cause less problems until I find a mint Jaguar? Thanks in advance 👌🏻

As long as you’re fine with the fuel a 5.0L engine uses in traffic :) A whole lot more than a Focus (I also used to have one). Ended up getting a car that uses half the fuel and does so much right that I’d only want to upgrade to a luxury vehicle that’s kind of reliable

I had a MK1 Focus as my first car. I would love a V8 XF, but the Lexus is more sensible. It depends on your insurance cost. It would be a good car in between until you find a nice XF

Mileage could be genuine. I only put 19k miles on my last car in 5 years. You can check the mot history to see mileage which should narrow it down a little. Granted, if clocked before first MOT, nothing you can do except check service history
