Watch the NASCAR Championship Race this Sunday live on NBC at 3 pm ET!

NASCAR is a uniquely American motorsport. It has always been about testing team and driver performance on as equal footing as possible. In this Science Garage, we took a field trip to Texas Motor Speedway for a behind the scenes look at the Science of Stock Cars. Bubba Wallace Jr let us know how the new rules feel on the track, and Parker Kligerman walks us around his car and tells us about all the little things teams do to get an edge in the race. It’s about aerodynamics, it’s about downforce and drag, and it’s about playing by the rules, while searching for the loopholes. NASCAR RULES!

Bart teaches us how cars work buy blowing stuff up and cutting things in half. It’s a science show for the car lover who’s easily bored. Join Bart as he explains the science behind everything automotive. This is cars down to the atom. This is Science Garage.

Some of our best videos ever are coming out soon, stay tuned so you won't miss a thing!

The restrictor plate was introduced in 1987 due to high speed crashes at Daytona and Talladega, not in 1971 when the new cars changed

Why doesn't NASCAR just provide the teams with prebuilt cars every weekend?... I mean... Hell.... Imagine any other sport being so committed to keeping everyone even....

I now REALLY want a v8 rwd camry. I feel like cars that can be readily bought by real people should be allowed. Not even just production cars because then you would have Ford using the gt500 and dodge using a redeye. Let's change it to like mid spec. An average Ford gt. The scat pack, Camaro ss. Etc. Fuck these sheet metal pieces with massive engines.

ahhh... i've always been saying "suped up" like i'm makingit into a budget super car.

(i mean, i'm just throwing some bolt-ons, so the 'super car' part is exaggerated...)

NASCAR should just have a vintage division. I'd watch the fuck out of that. The Golden era. 1965 to 1994. There would be subdivisions of the vintage division, based on decade. And they all use factory engines (but modified, as per era correct requirements), stock bodies, but modern safety equipment.

Nascar dictates everything the cars look and how they perform... its not about the teams or the manufacturers. Nascar is a boring blue print.... they are at the point where they are trying to create decent racing... The downforce is outta control it makes the speeds faster these cars hook up and drive away... When than ran stock bodies they used the natural downforce of the race car... this made the cars harder to drive which in turn made the racing closer... they need to let the manufacturers design the cars and loosen up on the rules.... the racing will improve... if everyone has the same performance and all the cars are the same with way too much downforce ..... the racing will never be good.... Plus there is no substance or interest anymore... Nascar are a bunch of control freaks they suffocated there own sport....

18 minutes of my life gone.

NASCAR is WWE on wheels: it's just a spec series using 1950's technology, and hasn't been "stock" for 30 years. Australian V8 Supercars are far more advanced and relevant than these so-called "cars".

"Cutting-edge technology"?? You're kidding, right?? Come back when you've learned what Formula 1 is all about.

The also had a rule because at one time pit crews were taking and breathing straight oxygen from tanks before they made a stop so theyed move faster around the cars
