Tata has finally launched its much-awaited SUV, the Harrier At Rs 12.69 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. Tata’s new flagship with its introductory price looks like a good value for money package.
The variant-wise price breakup, is as follow:
Tata Harrier XE - Rs 12.69 Lakh
Tata Harrier XM - Rs 13.75 Lakh
Tata Harrier XT - Rs 14.95 Lakh
Tata Harrier XZ - Rs 16.25 Lakh

With the Harrier, it seems like Tata has pulled out all the stops. Beginning with what’s underneath the swanky exterior. It’s based on the D8 platform that also underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport. But, all the aluminium has been ditched in favour of high-strength steel.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre diesel engine developed by Fiat. Yep, it’s the same motor that also powers the Jeep Compass. But, it makes 140PS of power instead of 173PS, while torque is rated at 350Nm. And while the platform and the engine suggest the Harrier is all-wheel drive, it’s not. Power is sent to the front wheels only. As a consolation, you do get ‘Terrain Response’ modes - Rough Road and Wet. There are three drive modes too — Eco, City and Sport.

On the features front, Tata has thrown in quite a whole lot. There’s Xenon projector headlamps, cornering foglamps, 17-inch alloy wheels as well as LED tail lamps. On the inside there’s a soft touch dashboard, and leather upholstery. Infotainment duties are handled by an 8.8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch display in the instrument cluster and a sweet-sounding 9 speaker JBL audio system. It’s loaded to the brim with safety tech too, including 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control and hill descent control.

Very good looking vehicle. Looks like something Land Rover could have evolved to look like. Things like drum brakes in the rear suggest that in some ways it is a bit dated technically at the moment so hopefully things will be upgraded soon. I really hope TATA can rescue Land Rover as it is a brand with much potential and desirability. They will need to get rid of what does not work and keep what does.

I like this car but Will not buy TATA cat again after nexon. Don't know it's tata's fault or the dealership. Very very disappointed by the noise and engine missing. I had also complained about this but no solutions. This is the bullshit from Tata. One of the executive says it is the normal noise but I had checked the other cars as well but there was no such noise.

nice review mate! best wishes from Canada. impressive stuff from Tata and a real interesting review, my first time on this channel. I do understand the time constraint at hand you mentioned on the beginning, but it would great if you could mention the storage space and rear seat comfort. I am actually looking to purchase a car for my dad within 15-16 price range ( thinking between this or the Jeep Compass, Jeep I have driven, it felt decent to amateur drivers like myself, I hope it is same across the globe)  so I rely heavily on experts like yourself. Just my two cents. have a great day. cheers.

If I was to spend my hard earned 20L on a car (SUV in this case ), I would rather take Jeep Compass or Creta sx(o) over Harrier any day.
Spending that much money and not getting expected features is a big no.
