www.autobytel.com/toyota/fj-cruiser/2012/?id=32972 The 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser is designed to go off-road. Everything about this SUV from the exterior design, to the engine, and 4WD system were designed to handle anything you can throw at it. Toyota kept with the retro styling theme and created a vehicle that is part truck and part SUV. The exterior of the FJ Cruiser plays homage to its roots that go way back to the 1960's with its short wheelbase and buff frame, as well as the look of the front grille and headlight assemblies. Base price on the 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser is $26,115.

The FJ Cruiser is powered by a 4.0 liter V-6 engine featuring Dual VVT-I technology that produces 250 horsepower and 271 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission choices are a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic. The automatic transmission is actually more fuel efficient netting the netting the FJ Cruiser 17 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway.

The chassis is built for trail duty. The body on frame truck style gives the 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser a high level of clearance measuring 9.6 inches of ground clearance. The suspension travel is 8 inches up front and 9 inches out back. Speaking of suspension, the FJ Cruiser sports a double wish-bone front and a 4-link rear. The A-TRAC system is an active traction control that acts like a locking differential. The FJ Cruiser also features Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, and Stability Control.

Besides all the off-road capable technology, the 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser comes with some other creature comforts as well. On the inside you get much need air conditioning, a nice stereo, Bluetooth, power windows and locks. You can add on many optional packages including a Convenience Package, Off-Road Package, trail Teams Special Edition Package, TRD Package and more. Check out the various add-ons you can get with a new 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser.

Honestly I don’t see the seat pillars to be a problem at all when it comes down to my visibility when I’m driving. If you just pay attention to what’s around you and check your mirrors constantly and wait 4 seconds before you change lanes Incase someone’s riding your blind spot

It's pretty much the newer Ford Explorer. Nice v6 roar, not the most efficient, blind spot with the c pillars, however the one thing the explorer has that the fj doesn't isn't aerodynamics that let it pick speed up real quick.

+Zach Novosad the fj has a 4 link rear suspension and factory diff locks... the explorer has leaf springs and open diff. the fj is a true off road vehicle like a jeep wrangler rubicon.

+Ashwin S right but what I'm saying is it's overall design is very similar to the FJ. My mom has one and I've driven it. Drives real nice

The explorer is a glorified mommy-van. Coming from someone who has actually driven it a lot. But it's extremely comfortable.

I'm talking about some of the main characteristics. Obviously the FJ is more off-road capable and built for it. I'm saying the Ford Explorer is very similar in the sense of its main design. No reason to get all butthurt

+PLAKATONG X2, I've owned my '07 FJC going on 10 years now and I still love this rig. 16 mpg combined is about right but I drive usually with a heavy right foot. The 4.0L motor has a lot of power for a 6 cyl. With a TRD CAI installed I love to put my right foot into it just to hear that baby sing!

well, it has a 4.0L engine, what do you expect ? I bet if the FJ had a smaller engine you would be one  of those people, complaining about the lack of power.
