** Jeep Cherokee diagonal test was performed on black ice and snow... yep we cant influence the weather! We rolled summer tires because we roll what the manufacturer gives us! Otherwise, even if traction was slim to none, this Jeep Cherokee Limited is one of the most capable off-road and would have passed the test without effort!

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee highlights a choice of three innovative 4x4 systems that have been enhanced for an unmatched 4x4 capability for all weather conditions. Jeep Cherokee maintains its place as the benchmark mid-size SUV with rear-axle disconnect technology that results in reduced energy loss when 4x4 capability isn’t needed while improving fuel efficiency. The rear-axle disconnect seamlessly switches between two- and four-wheel drive for full-time torque management and does not require input from the driver. Available on the Cherokee Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited and Overland models, Jeep Active Drive I features an all-new design for Cherokee. Jeep engineers set out to reduce weight and enhance the efficiency of the next-generation rear drive module (RDM), which is fully automatic and delivers seamless operation in and out of four-wheel drive at any speed. The result of this new state-of-the-art technology is a reduced weight of nearly 17 lbs., and a reduction of low-speed system drag torque by 50 percent, which improves fuel savings. All 4x4 systems feature the Jeep brand’s renowned Selec-Terrain traction control system, which allows the driver to choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum performance. Five customized settings are offered: Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock.

It has to be all season M+S tires from manufacturer. Still very slippery. Proves that dedicated winter tires are well wroth it. Merci!

It looks like all 4 tires are spinning with no traction. No can can move in that situation, doesn't matter how good the 4wd system is.

I use sport mode for climbing steep hills since it has a 60\40
rear bias it is perfect for that.
      ......
Snow mode won't allow wheel spin which you needed in your demo and it has a 60\40 FRONT bias which works against you climbing steep grades.
      .......
Sand \ mud mode gives 50\50 split and allows unlimited wheel spin.
      .......
With proper winter tires, the Cherokee would easily climb that
      incline in ANY mode.

Obviously running all season tires so traction is poor but the selec drive appears to be working.
      ........
Running in auto mode takes care of 90% of driving situations.
      ......
Snow mode uses 2nd gear start to prevent wheel spin on launch and uses all nanny modes to keep you from spinning out on turns.
      ......
Sand\mud gives unrestricted wheel spin and nanny controls are off.
      .....
Sport mode gives you a rear bias and transmission shifts
designed for maximum performance on dry roads.
      ......
With Cooper snow tires, i have yet to encounter any snow or ice situation the Jeep can't handle.

If I owned this parking lot I wouldn't mind you doing the diagonal tests. Spinning doughnuts seems like you are wearing out your welcome. I enjoy the tests, and I imagine much like the IIHS you are pushing manufactures to make better products.

Is it just me or does it seem better when cars slip a bit then regain traction to get you back up the slope? I think it is because it gives the computer a chance to try different algorithms and codes to get the car up the slope.

+PigHandButtah There wasn't equally 0 traction at each wheel. The Jeep Active drive system will find any traction and shift power to that wheel. There are roller tests that have shown that the Active drive system can and will move a cherokee if only a single wheel has traction. People don't give enough credit to the system its far better than any of the other AWD systems out there
