Electric cars have covered a great distance over the past years. They started as either vehicles the likes Tesla Model S that could show great instant acceleration times and have great range, but come at a premium price, or affordable city commuters the likes of Nissan Leaf that was generally affordable but wasn't fit for long range riding.

Luckily, the industry started evolving at an unseen before pace and today besides Tesla and Nissan we have other players on the market that try to provide the best of the two wolds: they try to introduce more range, faster charging times and other high tech features, while remaining cheap enough for they could attract the fans of regular cars.

Today even Tesla started looking into the cheaper EV segment and introduced their Model 3 vehicle. While it seems to have everything one may need, it's still a 35-thousand dollar car and the real question is: could there be a more affordable option?

In this video presentation we tried to overview and compare all of the newest electric vehicles that want to outsell the mighty Model III. Please note that all media content in this video is shown educational and illustrative purposes. Information about makers of these automobiles could be found at the end of the video.

The budget car segment is competitive as never, will Peugeot, Nissan, Sono Motors, Renault and other makers be able to come close to Tesla? We will have to see to find out.

The more the better. They are behind Tesla in software, battery and motor and body styling. Key components in an electric car that is why the Tesla is way better and more desirable even though it costs more. Those are the facts i am not biased since my wife drives the model 3 and I am waiting to buy the Cybertruck.
Tesla is indeed a way better and more superior EV and they fully deserve the success. They practically started the EV revolution.
One of the goal of Elon Musk is to promote other auto makers to make EV and he is succeeding. I am glad!

Hello, thank you for your comment. Right now, Model 3 is a great deal if you live in the US. Outside the US market, the situation is a bit different.

I guess the video editor has problems with Renault. He/she has used many misleading photos belonging to the older or the other models from the brand for both Zoe and K-ZE.

It's easy for these cars to out sell the model 3, just sell 1 unit. Because the model 3 $35.000, used is barley $35.000.

"want to".. lol. good luck with that. Nissan is a FLOP. NO BATTERY COOLING. rendering the battery pack unable to go much beyond about 100k miles. FLOP! Hyundai.. .MAYBE. the rest? not even for sale here or just as much $ as a model 3.. but only 1/3 the interior space. so yah.. "want to" is quite appropriate. I 'want to' own an airplane.. not gonna happen this year though. I 'want to' win the lottery. lmao.

@Datacube: awesome facts and interesting top liststesla is building a gigafactory in germany RIGHT NOW as we speak. only took them 10 months to build one in china... so it's ALL on the government in germany. if they take a long time to get approvals and building permits.. .that's on the german government. but.. once it get up & running... I'm guessing that will make it ALOT easier to buy a tesla in Europe.

Only one of these cars ( the VW ) could let me drive the 290 miles from Tampa, Florida, to Miami, Florida, on a charge. All the other doesn’t even come close. If I was going to drive from Tampa to west North Carolina ( 700 miles ), it will be lots of loooong stops to charge, in addition to the otherwise 10 hour drive...

NO ONE in their right mind wants to drive 500 miles without stopping to use the bathroom and at least get a snack & some coffee. DUHHHH. COMMERCIAL TRUCK DRIVERS are required BY LAW to stop and take a break for AT LEAST 30 minutes. I personally NEVER drive more than 200 miles without pulling off, stretching & taking a break for at least 20 minutes, even when I drove a gas car.

Jay Bee But.. Why doesn’t the gas-stations have any chargers? Why are there no chargers at the truck-stops or the big highway-restaurant chains? Cracker Barrel, Love’s, do you hear us? If we are going to stop and charge for 30 minutes.. Then we need to get lunch or something while waiting for the darn charging.

tesla model 3: depart Miami florida with 90% charge, drive north 178 miles.. stop at west melbourn supercharger for 16 minutes, charge from 24% to 66%. get back on the road... drive for 170 miles, stop at st. Augustine FL, charge for 26 minutes from 10% to 75%. great time for restroom break & lunch. get back on the road, drive 109 miles, then stop at savanha GA supercharger. charge from 10% to 58% in just 18 minutes. head north to santee, SC supercharger. charge from 15% to 85% in 30 minutes, restroom break, dinner back on the road.. head home to lake lure, NC with 10% charge left at home. now that's only 90 minutes of charging TOTAL. you COULD cut some time off that by destination charging to 100% at the start.. but this plan works just fine for me. abetterrouteplanner.com

I see this is a list of affordable EVs that outsell the Tesla Model 3 but I'm surprised the Nissan Leaf made this list. Whilst it might outsell the Tesla it would be difficult to recommend the Leaf. Every other maker of EV's has opted for an active cooling system for the batteries . Nissan have opted for an air cooled system that leads to significant degradation of the battery well within the life of the car. In cases where the battery has to be replaced the cost of the replacement exceeds the value of the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_zdtaJeYmw&t=57s

No EV is going to outsell the Model 3 unless is sells for under $30,000, has a range of over 250 miles and is available nationally in the U.S. So far, this car does not exist, and probably won't for at least four or five years.

@Dr. K's Art Place Timing and price is the name of the game my dear friend ! Any cars company can catch up 2 critical points will be a winner ! 85% people today go to work alone so they need a small car with economy fuel . EV car is the best solution ! I really my truck or my van , my Mercedes ... for travel or leisure on week end , but I also want a small EC car to commute everyday to save bucks !

@Dr. K's Art Place I know this is not realistic ! But any cars company come up with the price from $10,000 -$15,000 will be the big winner ! Just like the watch : you can buy in Wal Mart for $20 or you can buy from Switzerland for $1 million . However , the majority people will wear $20 watch ! Most people will drive with the $15,000 car more than Tesla .
