Motor1 Senior Editor Jake Holmes takes BMW’s brand new X3 for a spin to see how well it competes in the hotly contested luxury SUV segment.

The midsize sedan segment is as competitive as it’s ever been, with the four-door vehicles all offering extremely similar amounts of performance, space, efficiency, and equipment. Still, there’s plenty of difference between the many offerings. Toyota hopes its all-new 2018 Camry will be the one to lure you to its showrooms.
The new Camry rides on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) modular platform, and is longer but lower than before. Bold styling is far more eye-catching than the bland lines of last year’s Camry, while underhood a new automatic gearbox and two upgraded engines promise better acceleration and thriftier fuel economy. Those engines remains naturally aspirated ones, even as most of the Camry’s rivals go to turbochargers.
Inside, typical Toyota Camry virtues remain: a plush ride, a capacious cabin, easy-to-use controls, and a roomy trunk. But the Toyota does lag behind some of its rivals when it comes to in-car technology, and doesn’t have the flashest interior materials of any new midsize sedan.
Can all these changes keep customers coming back to the perennially popular Camry? Watch our latest Why Buy? video review to see how the latest version of Toyota’s four-door stacks up.

What is the longivity of its turbo engine? How long will the turbo last? How much to fix or replace?

Run flats have gotten far better, but I would still prefer normal tyres and a spare in the trunk.

Love it. I leased one for 3 years. Butttttttt I can't buy anything now that isn't a hybrid (or better yet: plug-in hybrid or EV.)

Oh BMW. You finally include a touchscreen infotainment system that only supports Apple CarPlay at the "low cost" of $300. It's like you can't help yourselves when it comes to price gouging luxury car buyers on overpriced options that are included as standard features on lesser vehicles.

J High They need help with their dieselgate fines. Don't forget VAG charge premiums for the same platforms depending what badge they wear.

J High My point is BMW have a long history of this, and people still complain - guess they've never seen Porsche pricing. At the same time as the 507, BMW built Isettas under license just to survive. Soon they're going down market with fwd., as have Mercedes & Audi, & people will bitch about that as well. I get what you mean about pricing - if you wanted sport rims on 2nd. gen. X5? $10k, all in. So don't see many. Handsome, though.

FYI....VAG includes Audi and Porsche who are also guilty of financially sodomizing luxury car buyers with the same overpriced options bundling.

My wife bought her BMW after trading in her 2013 Mercedes SUV on it. She earns a good salary so she can buy whatever she chooses. I refuse to buy an overpriced German luxury car where across the board standard technology and safety features are somehow bundled into overpriced option packages (a rearview camera costs $1500?). I'm also not sure how you managed to name drop Elvis Presley and Ursula Andress into a BMW car review forum, but kudos to you I suppose.

J High Sure, gorgeous car. BMW 507 were so expensive only 252 were built, at a loss. Elvis bought 2, gifted one to Ursula Andress. Now they auction for millions, Elvis' car is in the corporate museum. People complained about the price of the 2002 five decades ago - couldn't even get power windows on that sucker, but engineering & build were premium & people paid that premium. Anyone wanting cheap bells & whistles should buy Korean. Or used.

What makes you say that? Do the research. All the 4cy turbo out on the roads are problematic in great numbers by many auto makers. Turbo 4cy engines are compromise but come short of replacing the V6. Power and fuel mileage.
